If the game is released a 'pre-gold/beta-plus' preview edition, then the point is moot. Iit's up to Markus if he feels like it or not. And either way, there is a fraction of the population who are going to take affront anyway.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln with liberites- You can please some of the people all of the time, and none of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time.

As long as he has made no claims on a full release date and he does not claim that the HTH sans release is the full release version, there is no issue and this would fall under the heading programmer priviledge. A favour to a significant population of OOTP players but a disfavour to no one.

The fuss over the H2H option not ever making it into the game is because last year, options which were announced as appearing in later patches of the game never actually appeared.

The worry is that this could be repeated.

Also, surely the H2H option impacts on many different aspects of the game code - it could change a lot of the original release, so whats the point in bringing it out without H2H?

I don't know if the decision has been made yet, but I have to agree with the majority. It would be great to see H2H implemented with the original game but in my case, I probably won't use it much. I usually play solo leagues. Putting into a later patch gets my vote. Please release the game.

Let's all just take a deep breath and relax. This is one of the best baseball sims ever created. Considering the size of the development team we are all very lucky.

Wouldn't it be a shame it Markus decided all this BS on the boards wasn't worth it and he hung up his programming hat for good?

Markus, thanks for OOTP5. It's a great game worth far more than I paid!

Getting? It's already entered the level of ridiculous 15 pages ago when people stopped reading what was being said and decided to believe what they wanted to believe.

Argh....

THESE ARE MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS HERE.

Why is it so difficult to see it this way....

NEWSLETTER said....

"Out of the Park 6 is rapidly approaching beta testing and should be ready for release around Opening Day!"

APRIL UPDATE Post said....

"Unfortunately, I was moving to a different house, and this move (couldn't be delayed, btw) cost me about 1 week of development time, and I was without internet as well. Anyway, beta testing is going at full steam, and I still believe we will be able to release the game before April 15th if nothing unforseen happens. However, we will only release the game when we think it is stable and all new features are working as advertised!"

Potential early release post said....

"OK, today I have been thinking about a possibility to get the game released sooner. The only real big feature that needs to be put in is the internet head-to-head mode. It is already 50% implemented, but I guess getting it done 100% and testing it properly will take 1 week. So, the question is, I could leave this out of the initial release, and concentrate on it fully for the first big update, which usually is 2-3 weeks after release time. What do you think, would you mind if I left this feature out of the initial release to get the game out sooner?"

Looks to me like April 15th is still the best date we have. Who hasn't been reading the same posts I have ?

(sorry for my frustration, but it seems clear to me)

I think April 15th would be a good day, anyway, should that be around the time it is released... what better way to take your mind off of getting reamed by the IRS than to play some OOTP6?

Wow... I had no internet over the weekend, and now this! 32 pages of replies.

From my point of view, the head-to-head is really just a small part of the new features, and probably only interesting for online leagues anyway. Setting up the online league so that the head-to-head can be used properly would take time anyway, so I feel if this feature is not part of the initial release, people should not be too upset. It'll be added in the first update anyway!

Anyway, I will give the best I can to get the game done now without concentrating on H2H. Once that is done (next week), I will decide if I release the game without H2H, or spend an extra 7 days on the H2H before release.

I'll keep you posted!

Cheers,
Markus

There we go. Maybe this will chill people out for the next week.

It's a simple decision. If the rest of the game is stable, and H2H still needs work, release the game without H2H.

Just another note for the benefit of this board from a newbie. How can some of you people honestly assume that the number of our posts on this (or any) computer message board in any way related to knowledge, relevance of opinion or support of the game & its developers? This sort of immature attitude is like hating the French "because they are French."

Next time you are putting us - those out of the loop of current developments, problems and discussions - down please remember that you are flaunting your knowledge of a grassroots sports simulator that you play on the computer and try to figure out why we brainless newbies don't come around and post more often.
