New League Forming/Civ 3 Riskball
Looks like there's some interest in this thing, so let me further enhance the rules.
I'm working on a website and should have something tangible in the next couple of days. Okay, the concept and execution of the plan: It's tentatively called Riskball (However I'm not particularly fond of that name, so if you can think of a better one, post it here.) Basically, as stated in my last post, what if war was decided by baseball instead of guns and tanks? 32 teams (Countries) set up on a Risk-type board. Fictional league that has a fantasy draft to begin and every year after the victor has been determined. What country you get is random. Draft is serpentine. There are no finances. After the draft there will be a one-week (real time) period for trades. Once the carnage begins, no trading is allowed. (This is because once a team is eliminated, what would prevent them from trading the players they have to another team. So basically, if you're eliminated, your players, (The ones that haven't been taken by the victors) fall on their swords. Okay, to the way the game is played. After the draft and trading period countries will begin attacking. They can attack an adjacent country. Only one attack per round. Order of attack is reverse order of draft. An attack consists of 7 games. A country has four boundaries, essentially rings, that represent infiltration into their country. Once another country has infiltrated to the center ring, that country no longer exists and is taken over by the marauding country. What determines how far into the country another country gets? A country that wins 4 games to 3 moves into the outer most ring of the losing country. The winning country gets to pick 1 player from the losing country's team. A country that wins 5 games to 2 moves two boundaries in. The winning country gets to pick 2 players from the losing country's team. A country that wins 6 games to 1 moves 3 boundaries in. the winning country gets to pick 3 players from the losing country's team. A country that sweeps the 7 games goes to the center and the losing country is eliminated. The winning country takes 4 players from the losing country. If an attacking country loses the attack, as a concession of the defeat the country loses the amount of boundaries that were stated above. ie. 4 games to 3 = 1 boundary. Another team may attack the same country but they must still infiltrate all 4 boundaries. As an example if Country A attacks Country B and gains two boundaries, Country C can't pick up where Country A left off. However, attacking Country B after country A has made infiltration may be smart since Country B has lost several players during the attack. Which brings up the next point. All Countries will announce their attacks before the beginning of the round. You may only change your attack destination if you have been attacked and wish to retaliate against your attacker. This prevents everyone picking on the same team during the same round. Of course, the next round they could. Rounds continue until there is only one country still on the map, who are therefore crowned Conquerer and Ruler over all. (Until the next season, when we start all over again.) I'm sure I've missed something, so ask away. I think you might want to add some 'keepers' to each team, 5-10, or it will be completely worthless to draft anyone under 25 at the beginning of the year draft

So basically the only way to eliminate a team is to sweep them 7 games? That's pretty hard....

clarification
The first time you attack the country you need to sweep them seven straight to make it through all 4 levels. However the next time you attack them you get to start from where ever you left off. So, for an example, if you win the first attack 4 games to 3 you will be inside their borders at level one. The next time you attack them you will start there, so now you only need to make it three more levels to conquer them.

It's SIBERIA not the UKRAINE, and it's suppose to be just a representation of the world, not an exact match.

Kramer and Newman were playing a game of Risk, and in the middle of the game, Newman has to go to work, so to assure that neither Kramer or Newman corrupt the state of the board, they take it to Jerry's so the game can rest on neutral ground.
Eventually, somehow Kramer and Newman are on the subway with the game board, and they get into an argument about the strategic value of the Ukraine. One of them, which one I cannot remember, declares that the Ukraine is weak. An immigrant from the Ukraine takes offense and attacks the board. I believe that is the end of the show. My favorite line in that particular episode is when Elaine is standing in Jerry's apartment, and she sees the board setting on Jerry's table. Elaine asks what it is, and Jerry responds by saying, "It is a game about conquering the world, being played by two men who can barely run their own lives."

Classic.
And I'd like to apologize to Jonzard who said that the Ukraine is weak! Having not seen the episode, I thought he was talking about my representation of the country Ukraine in the game, and didn't realize the seinfeld reference.

"You know what the Ukraine is? It's a sitting duck. A road apple, Newman. The Ukraine is weak. It's feeble. I think it's time to put the hurt on the Ukraine." - Kramer, close to victory in Risk, in "The Label Maker" "It's Risk. It's a game of world domination being played by two guys who can barely run their own lives." - Jerry, in "The Label Maker" "I'm taking the Congo as a penalty!" - Kramer, after catching Newman cheating at Risk, in "The Label Maker" |
