When is...

...the Redsox vs Yankees game on TV?

What did you expect me to say? Something about the OOTP 6 release?

And no, that's not what this thread is about. Just figured I'd ruffle some feathers before asking a silly question to pass the time. The question?

When was the first time you knew you were hooked to OOTP?

Myself... I bought the game on a gamble, basically. It was sitting ina clearance bin and hell, it was a cheap baseball game and the screenshots on the back of the box looked good enough. So, for 7.50 I made it my own.

Now, initially, I wasn't 'hooked'. It wasn't until my star player, a fictional guy, started being a total jerk in contract negotiations that I was really hooked. I'd played several console & PC games where it was basically a given -- anyone you want to re-sign you can without any problem. I loved firing an offer out there and the player having a personality of his own and tell me to basiclally bite him. There's countless other things that I loved about the game but that was the one thing that early on really hooked me. OOTP 3 wasn't a huge challenge on the GM side but at least it didn't let you just run rampant and have your way like other supposed "GM simulations".

Then I found baseballsimcentral which basically just reeled me in after the hook was set. Because then I had logos, parks and the MLB roster set.

Anyone else?

Jase

Ummm, no. I ask a specific question: what one thing hooked you on OOTP. That asks, what was your first OOTP.

The two questions aren't even remotely alike.

It took me about the quarter of one season to know I was hooked....I was actually looking for games like FOF but for other sports...and I think I was going down the list of games at sportplanet and came here....browsed the forums...Tiger Fan was in his HOB (original) dynasty as well a few others I can't recall...and I was so fascinated I was willing to drop my money right there. Money well spent.

I used to play Earl Weaver way back when, but it left me wanting more. When I found OOTP 3, it sounded like what I had been looking for. I was hooked from my very first fictional season. This was what I had been looking for. To take fictional players (with historical players, you know what should happen) and watch as they succeed when they shouldn't, fail when they should make it, or blossom into the star you thought they could be...

I am a GM at heart with some owner thrown in, and just a smidge of manager. OOTP lets me indulge my GM side without having to play every game; just let me handle the "big picture."

Oh yeah, I'm hooked.

I was playing Baseball Mogul from the first version up till the 2000 version....at which point...they just weren't doing anything to really improve...I felt like it was just not very deep and that they didn't really listen to the fans...they just did what they wanted....worried about the MLBPA liscence too much...

So I wandered off and remembered playing a demo of Out Of The Park 2....so I went and downloaded OOTP3's demo...played it...bought it...and have since bought 4 and 5....and pre-ordered 6....its just the best text based baseball sim on the market....period.

Let's see......I bought the original Season Ticket Baseball on a total gamble from games shoo for 9.99 purely based on all the stats. I immediatly began my own custom league with custom players. I played that season for maybe until the All Star, when the game sat on my shelf for a good 6-8 months when I rediscovered again. I picked up where I left off and did not become addicted until the following season when the FA period and the Ammy Draft came along. I drafted badly in the original draft, and took way too many young players, but I had the best minor league system I have still ever seen. I loved tracking those guys progress through the minors, even though my current roster was horrid. I knew I was addicted when I was mowing the lawn and I just couldn't quit thinking about a trade I had made earlier that day. "Was it worth it?" "I think it should help me out..." I stopped half way through to run in and get a few games in to test out my new stud before finishing the lawn........
