I didn't frequent these boards regularly until the end of 2002, though. Before then, I just mostly came to ask questions. Now I spend a large chunk of my life here.
You mean you actually have a life outside of these boards!?

I first purchased OOTP as Season Ticket Baseball. I was looking for a game that incorporated the monetary, free agent, minor league call up etc. parts of the game that DMB did not include. So since OOTP4 I have been hooked

Now years later, here I am getting ready to buy OOTP6. Sweet. All I do is lurk now and watch the daily nuclear war between all you posters. Funny stuff.
Hey, I do remember you! Didn't you used to be sort of a regular in OT also?

I notice a number of people who came from more graphic games straight to OOTP. Did the lack of visuals turn you off initially at all? Do you think OOTP would be improved by having a simplistic, Earl Weaver-like graphic component?

For me (coming from HH), I didn't miss the graphics at all. I always enjoyed the GM aspects of the game far more than playing or managing the games. OOTP has been fantastic in that regard. Yeah, it would be nice sometimes to drop into a 3D game and play an exhibition game with my teams but I'm willing to sacrifice that for the far deeper immersion.

Actually, I spent a lot of time with a gama called "Radio Baseball" which got me into the idea of text based games. WHen I moved from HH to OOTP - it was like going back to an old friend

Yeah, I went straight from Strat-O-Matic to Baseball Mogul to OOTP, with a couple of graphic games in there as minor, side games that I played. I've always been much more into text-based games and I can never get into a graphic game because there's always less depth. Still, I've recently found myself wishing I could see some of my favorite OOTP players on the field. I'll hold out hope that in some future iteration of OOTP, there will be some level of graphics. I don't mean the ability to control players physically, just the ability to see them play. If a game with the depth of OOTP could show graphics, I wonder how well it would do.

Sorry, I know this little tangent isn't in line with the initial topic, but reading all the posts here got me thinking about it.

I would love to see somethig like that. I don't want to control the players at all, but just be able to watch them play like you could in Earl Weaver.

I played a game in the mid-80's called Pure Stat Baseball that did something like this. The sim engine wasn't all that great but the game had a limited graphical engine that showed you each batter's results. It was sweet.

I first started with OOTP4, did a search for baseball sims. I was tired of Mogul as I wanted something with real salaries. I first started out with MicroLeague, then Tony LaRussa, then FPS, then Baseball Mogul and Lance Haffner in the same direction. Every year my dad and I would waste countless days putting in stats and updating teams on a weekly basis of what was happening in the current season with injuries, trades. etc. In the meantine of playing OOTP4 I also played high heat 2k1 which wasn't bad but it wouldn't let me go past the first year ever since OOTP 4 I haven't strayed

I've been playing since the second release.

And am eagerly looking forward to the next instalment. But let me warn eveybody that once the Expos leave Montreal I will leave OOTP.

Without the Expos OOTP is useless to me

I started out playing "Baseball Mogul" Then stopped for afew months and was about to start playing it again when I decided to do a search for baseball sims online... This is where I found OOTP5... I watched these forums for afew weeks askign questions about the game and input about the game and heard nothing but great things... I bought OOTP5 and love it.. I pre-ordered OOTP6 and waiting patiently for its release

My screen name "justgettigninfo" was used while I was aksing all the queasitons about OOTP... I could change it and remake another name.. but hey, I still have some questions now and then and the name will be recognized by thiose who answered my questions way back when... Just wanted to say thanks for the developers of OOTP & the nice community on the furom boards who are always willign to help answer questions when they arrise..

My brother kept telling me how good OOTP3 was...and I bought OOTP4 after it came out. Best sports game ever.
