With all due respect, I think there's some rose-colored glasses being worn here. I'm with Aadik and Wireman on this one. He is not missed one bit by me. And remember, I supported the guy for a long time. In fact, I was one of the very last to turn against him.

Sure, he frequently had good points, and was quite intelligent. He also had plenty of good ideas regarding OOTP and baseball simming in general. No argument there.

He was also one of the single most arrogant jerks I've ever encountered on the net, GF included. Don't forget the constant flame wars involving him. Enough was quite enough, IMO.

I still get annoyed thinking about his sig line telling us how much smarter and better he was than all of the rest of us. Oh yeah, he could beat everybody else up, too. Have we forgotten that? I haven't.

Actually, there is one circumstance in which I'd like to see him return. I'd pay money to watch MD and GForce go toe to toe. Now that would be interesting to watch.

Khaos, OTOH, I definitely miss. I keep hoping he'll come back one day.

Yeah, I definitely miss Khaos more, no doubting that.

But in terms of arrogance, MD could not, on his worst day, compare to GF. I used to support GF as well, but he took it too far. MD was an *******, but he knew it and we knew it, and coexistence was possible, if not desirable. GF, on the other hand, was not only a gigantic *******, he'd insist he wasn't one in the most *******-like manner. Say what you will about Malleus, but GF's attack on SoxWin alone makes him worse than MD. Everything else is just icing on the already-substantial cake.

Like I said, I can understand why anybody could have a problem with Malleus. I just personally did not have one. But then again, I have a low tolerance for idiocy, as did MD. Hell, if I had Steve or Henry's job, I'd have flipped out and left a trail of dead bodies over half the eastern seaboard by now. =)

EDIT: Damn, forgot about the filter. All those **d-out words are begin with 'a' and end in 'e,' if you couldn't figure it out.

On this point, I cannot disagree. Like I said earlier, I was frequently in agreement with MD on a lot of issues.

I guess I just don't see how this board requires MD here to "save us" from anyone. There are plenty of others here that are more than capable of that.

FWIW, I never personally had a confrontation with MD until the very end.

As a reminder, here's a couple of MD tidbits from that time frame:
Quote:
This wasn't a debate for me. I was actively trying to teach you guys something.

I'm just like this in real life and never have got my "face smashed"; in fact, I am undefeated in real-life hand-to-hand combat, with only one draw...if someone's face is going to get smashed in real life, I am sorry to tell you that it certainly won't be mine.

You can all relax. I won't be arguing with you in the future as you have been weighed in the balance and found wanting.
NOTE: I think this one ticks me off more than anything. Using the bible to proclaim his own superiority )
I had forgotten that GF and MD had actually already tangled with each other. Interestingly enough, most took GF's side in those battles. Heck, even Old Man was siding with GF against MD. What does that tell you? My, how times have changed.

In any case, I've spoken my piece and will stop flogging the deceased equine now.

Pretty funny. I've been lurking around OOTP forums for a number of years now and when I saw the first "I miss Malleus" post in this thread I actually wrote a fairly long "What??? That guy was an a-hole" reply.

But I don't really like to get into that sort of thing and just deleted the post and moved on. But I'm glad to see I wasn't the only person who couldn't stand the guy. As far as I'm concerned, I wish Malleus a fond good riddance.

One thing Malleus would do was say things to newbies that "we were thinking".. but would never say.

He was blunt.. very blunt actually. I always liked reading his posts thinking to myself... "what will this guy say next?"

At the very end just before he left.. we got into it about something... can't remember what it was for sure.. I think it was about the bbpro importer.

Do I miss Malleus? Yes... due to the pure entertainment he provided.... no.. because he was beyond a jerk to newbies.

Oh, no doubt. It's not so much that I want him around to "save us," more like it would be entertaining when people ask for the six-hundredth time when OOTP6 will be released, or when jagoffs like Fit Dog show up. =)

Though I can't help but wonder what the climax of the GF saga would have been like if Malleus was around to contribute.

'Asshat' is great. Saw it for the first time on FARK. Interesting word, accurately conveys the message, most boards don't filter it (like this one), and is just plain fun to use.

Bull. I got along just fine with Gregg - and for what its worth, Sox made it clear that he didn't hate him anymore- he did apologize. That's irrelevant- I think MD was a lot worse, and the misty-eyed views towards MD scare me- he was the kind of guy who was a complete and total jackass, intelligent or not. MD's arguing style was a poor man's Steely Glint- in that he wasn't quite as much of an ass, but that his tone and attitude often clouded anything good he had to say.

While I was never around when MD was, GF did limit his arguments almost entirely to Off-Topic, whereas attacking new users is not only very bad for business (and bullying of the worst order), but it reminds me of CM, and that's not good.

Ok. I see your points, and I can't honestly disagree with them. MD was hard to deal with much of the time, but he did seem to direct most of his ire at those who didn't do the obvious.

He was unforgiving for asking a question that was in a thread on the front page. He considered it a colossal waste of time to answer the same question 1,000 times. I guess it's that part I understand best LOL

As far as his spouting his superiority, I have to agree. He may have been smart, but constantly reminding everyone could never lead to a welcome result.

M D wasted more keystrokes explaining why he wouldn't answer a particular question rather than just answer it.... as the hackneyed saying goes, he was a Legend in his own mind.....

MD and I had a run in or two. I know I used to get angry at the way he ambushed noobs. But looking back at his posts are pretty humorous now (the reason I re-posted one of them), but I think things are better off without. The bad outweighed the funny.

Sweet!

Along with Alt-Tab, that's two great things I've picked up on the boards this week. Proof you should eyerollingly teach the "ignert" if you want them learn, rather than bash them. Well, not proof... Ah, whatever, I'll shut up about it.
