Why is OOTP 5 still on the front page?

Isn't version 6 close enough to start advertising its glory on the front page of this website? I don't understand this sort of backward merchandising. Newcomers to the site will surely get the wrong impression.

I've preordered, so I'm not too concerned -- just mystified.

Good question. However, this is probably a "minor" issue compared to finalizing the beta-version of the game in order to get it released.

Agreed. But if you're looking for the greater public, you need to stay current. Advertising OOTP5 on the front page screams "out-of-date."

Don't get me wrong, I wish only the best for this game and its makers. This is some of the best stuff around. I just think they need a bit of help in the PR/Merch department. I only want to see them succeed.

I'm willing to join!

Because advertising a New game that isn't available for public consumption, is against the laws of this country, this state, and a local farm. Not to mention the fact that the USDA hasn't put it's seal of approval upon it, yet.

But it will.....it will.....

V5 is on the front page because it is THE latest version of our game "FOR SALE". I would hate to see what would happen if v6 was on the front page and NOT DONE......you think there are alot of "where's the game, yada, yada, now......"

Steve,
There's nothing wrong with advertising your upcoming game. After all, that's what you want to sell. Your current project should stand as the feature while keeping accessible links to past products. If OOTP6 was still a year off, I'd understand your choice to keep it in the background. But with the release date so near, and a product with such a strong history, you should fluff your feathers.

Whatever... I love your work, look forward to OOTP6, and remain a faithful fan.

Plus, I'm sure it would be simple to code

Please excuse my wording......."it is the latest version that can be purchased and currently downloaded and played."

There should at least be a mention of OOTP6. I would be a little annoyed if I went to buy OOTP5 and then realized a new version was so close to being out.

Now, there might be mention of OOTP6. So, if there is...please disregard my post

I think that's it. They're trying to milk a few more sales out of OOTP 5 before the new version is released. That's not necessarily a bad thing. A person who stumbles upon the website can buy OOTP 5 at the discount price (or try the demo for free), get hooked on it, and then come back and buy the new version when it is released. I'd probably do the same thing if it was my company.

I don't think that they are trying to milk it, I just think they aren't going to put up that site until the game is fully ready and posted. There are enough anxious people without the site up, imagine if they put it up now?

Also, just checked the front page and there is mention of 6 on both the main page and the OOTP page. On the main page there is the newsletter information and pre ordering information. On the OOTP page there is a little link that says OOTP 6 News that links to the newsletter.

Then I have no problem with it as long as people know that OOTP6 is close

It must be that v6 is not close enough to completion yet.

"OOTP6 will be released when it has been fully tested and found to be ready."

I have heard that somewhere, quite a few times actually. Still cannot place my finger on it. :-)

Yes, as would I. If you keep the same pricing model throughout you can always offer free upgrades to anyone who bought the old version within x number of days of the release of the new version. That's what we do where I work (where x = 30).

I think the "pre order version 6" stuff is prominent enough to lead most users to believe that a new version will be out soon. Of course, they might also think it's like electronics boutique and they're taking pre-orders for a game that's 15 months away...

The worst thing about the OOTP5 page is the image that says OOTP is $34.95 right up front. If you scroll down you notice it's only $19.95 now. And sandwiched in between is OOTP6 at a pricepoint of $25.95. Confusing all together. Hopefully it will be cleaned up very soon with the release of 6

It is valid, in my eyes, to see the web page, buy 5, and then realize 6 is coming out very soon- I would feel irritated at wasting 20 bucks.
