Wakefield Mammoths
Like many, I assume, I'm planning a new solo league for the advent of OOTP6. I have a pretty good set of logos, adapted from a variety of sources, but I'm stuck with the Wakefield Mammoths. The one I have is pretty boring, I feel. I think I'd prefer a more "cartoon" look to the mammoth, but haven't been able to find anything. Any contributions gratefully received!

Here is all I could find for a Mammoths logo:
http://www.frontierleague.com/kenoshafront.htm If you like it better, ask for someone to recreate it. Or maybe someone will do a cartoonish original? Here another one: http://www.logoserver.com/SHL.html Last edited by Eugene Church; 03-19-2004 at 12:16 PM. |

Thanks, Eugene, that's really helpful. I'm not sure about the Winston-Salem one, but even with my basic skills I hope I'll be able to remove "Kenosha" and add "Wakefield". That should give me a better look.

That'll teach me to shoot my mouth off! I've failed miserably to do an adaptation; I eliminated "Kenosha" easily enough, but I'm only using Paint and I can't seem to get the font small enough to fit "Wakefield" in its place. So I'm back to grovelling for help, guys!

Hopefully, one of the genius designers will create an original one for you.
Mammoths logos are almost extinct, you might say, Old Chap.

Just a bump for Tyke.
This seems to be a tough one, but you great logos designers can do it. |

Another bump to get it back to the top so the designers can see it.

Thanks very much, Sandstorm, that should serve very well. And thanks for the bumps, Eugene!

Encouraged by Sandstorm's effort, I went back and searched again for a cartoon mammoth, eventually coming up with this. Thanks for your efforts, guys, and also the inspiration to have another go myself.

Tyke, you did it well.
It is your logo...but ole Picky Me thinks that MAMMOTHS would look better reading left to right...it looks backwards to me. Just an observation. |

Post it in a new thread and ask for someone to redo the lettering on MAMMOTHS...ask to reverse it.
Post something like "Need lettering help". I get the impression once the logo guys read a thread and think it is a finished work, they don't look at that thread again. That's why I suggest you repost it. |

I'm really glad I started this thread because, thanks to the suggestions and inspiration provided by members of these boards, I've been pushed to get off my behind and try and do something for myself. Eugene suggested changing round the lettering on my Mammoths logo and, after thinking I couldn't do it, I eventually got there! I confess that if I hadn't been able to manage it this time, I would have changed the name to the Wakefield Dead Ducks and turned it over to one of the pro logo designers in the forum!!

You did well, Tyke.
And it is done exactly like you wanted it. I wish I had the skill to do them myself. I tried using Paint, but have trouble trying to use the "Help" to create a logo. Any suggestion on graphics software that a computer novice can use? |

Anything I can do has to be VERY basic. I'm using Paint, so I try and find an image, sometimes from Logoserver.com and sometimes just a Google search. For the Mammoths I searched Google Images for "cartoon mammoth" and the centre of my logo was what I found. I saved it into a directory, then re-opened it in Paint. Then I opened a Word document, used WordArt to enter the name of the team, then copied and pasted it onto the Paint document. Sometimes I have to remove text by painting over it using the surrounding colour. It was trial and error to get the wording the right size but after two or three tries I got it. The result is nowhere as professional as the geniuses whose work we see on this board, but, as you say, Eugene, I ended up with something that is my own and I'm proud of my achievement. Naturally, my ambition is to improve with practice and OOTP6 should give me plenty of chance to practise.

Tyke I like it alot, I'm glad I could inspire you to create somting you realy like. How do you get "word art" in word?
Eugene: ANy grapic software will become eaiser to use as you practice, I don't have a very good program, so I usually use 4 or 5 different programs in order to finish one logo. The main one I use is PhotoImpresion which I got free with a webcam my buddy got me for Christmas. I also use MSpaint alot which is on every MS machine. IrfanView is a cool program which alows you to create a number of effects real easy (this is the program I use to creat the 3d border I used on a few of the logos I made for you) IrfanView is a freeware program as long as it is used for personal use. The only program I use offten that I paid for is "Click n, design" it is a program for creating CD covers, it is the best program that I have for creating circular text.

Sandstorm, thanks for your kind words. Knowing the great work you do, it means a lot. If you open a blank Word document, there is a tilted, blue letter A on the tool bar at the bottom of the page. Afteer that it's fairly self explanatory.

Thanks for the advice from both of you, Tyke and Sandstorm.
My next big challenge will be to add photos to my fictional league. After that, I may play around with Paint and see if I can create some logos. |
