Cato Problem
Okay, I'm really stumped on this one. I'm just starting Cato up for my solo league, and it won't import the league.csv file. The Cato error message tells me to look for weird characters, and believe me, I have.
There are no leagues ending in a period, no weird characters, nothing. Here are a couple questions: 1) Does Cato freak out if I named my one division the same thing as I named the league? I'm pretty sure I've done this in the past with it. 2) Are there some number quantities that might cause it to meltdown? The only odd one I can think of in my league is the cash max - I've set it to $999,999,999. I'm going to try this again at a lower amount..... Anyone have any clue? I've been at this for a couple hours and am really frustrated.

Not sure on # 1..I would guess no...
# 2 I have ran leagues with the cash max being $999,999,999 many times and had no problem with Cato. Whenever I get that error...it has always been due to too many characters in the Nicknames or Hometown for player(S). Wish I could be of more help. |

Does it give you a line number that Cato is finding the error in? And is the error occurring in players.csv?
If so, edit players.csv with notepad...the lines are all numbered so whatever line number the error message tells you, go to the line one before the error line number. If the error message says error in line 45, your error is in line 44. Like HolyCow mentioned, usually the error has to do with nicknames or hometowns being too long, but I've noticed one other thing that will sometimes cause this same error. Make sure you don't have an extra quotation mark in the hometown or nickname fields...I'm not sure how they get there, but once in a while, I'll have three quotation marks in one field, and it throws Cato off and spits out that same error message. Sometimes they will be in a field that is blank so they are all back to back to back ("""), sometimes you will have an opening quote, then the text, and then a double quote at the end ("text""). |

I think maybe one of your awards may be too long to import Eck
Happened to me when I tried to name my defense award to defensive player of the year award

Eck - please follow up if this issue is resolved, this shouldn't be as difficult as stat errors in players csv's since the league csv is so small.

Sorry about the delay.
Carlton, I thought your suggestion sounded helpful, but alas, it didn't work. I renamed everything to really short names and it didn't make a difference. To reiterate: the issue is definitely with the league.csv file (or at least that's what the program tells me when I run it). I'm actually really at a loss with this - I don't know what could be causing the error. I don't think the board will let me attach the .csv file, or I'd do so right now. This is aggravating.

Are you using the right exporter? There are at least two versions of the Comish Joe's exporter for OOTP 5. The most current one (for BOSI) does not work with CATO. You need to use the exporter that is available on CATO's website. I ran into this problem, I believe I was getting the same error in the same file.

nevermind, got that sorted out. Now my only real issue is for some reason the history of the players seem to only import random scattered years. (it's 2009, A-Rod's goes up to only 2000, another player just has 2006 listed...)

To answer your questions, no and no.
99.99% of the time this problem happens when the wrong Exporter is used. If the first line of your league.csv file ends with 'Arbitration?,June Draft', then you are not using the correct Exporter. |
