118 wins, and lose in 6 in NLCS

Why does OOTP hate the best overall record when it comes to the playoffs?

WHY?

WHY I ASK YOU, WHY?!?!?!?!?!

That's baseball.

Regular season record doesn't mean jack once it gets to the playoffs ... Aside from deciding home field advantage.

It's the same with my team. My offense just completely gives up come playoff time, but I'm well aware it's just bad luck that my team always gets screwed in the playoffs, not some sort of hidden code to make the best teams lose.

Winning 10 or even 20 games than someone else over 162 game span only means what, you have around a 10% better chance of winning each game than them? Since there are 7 teams in the playoffs that didn't have the best record, and only 1 team that did, it doesn't seem unlikely at all that that the team with the best record loses in the playoffs more often than not.

Having the best record may make you the favorite, but it hardly makes you a lock.

Ya just never know...

In Wild Things, I had a team set the league record for most wins only to lose in the World Series to a team that failed to win 50% of its games during the regular season.

just cause you have the best record in the season does not mean you have the best team. maybe you played a weaker amount of teams

My own online league examples:

In 2005 and 2006 in POTD, I finished with the best regular season records in each (see sig for specifics) with my Glacier Bay team. In fact, on Sunday night, my 116-46 Glacier Bay team for 2006 lost 4 games to 2 in the Divisional Series (we have it set at seven games) to the San Andreas Fault, who went 92-70. In 2005, when I went 103-59, San Andreas, who finished 88-74 that season, beat me 4 games to 3 in the Divisional Series (San Andreas also won the WS that year, surprisingly enough). For some reason in the postseason, weird things happen and I just can't beat that one team. In 2005, I had a 3 games to 1 lead and blew Game Five because of an error and a bunch of unearned runs and then lost Games Six and Seven. In 2006, also in Game Five, my sub 3.00 ERA setup man and my closer, who set the league record with 56 saves this season, found a way to blow a 7-2 lead in the 9th inning and lose 8-7.

For ULB in 2004, my Texas Rangers went 122-40 yet failed to win the World Series. I blew through the LDS and LCS, losing no more than one game in each series, but lost to the Mets in seven games in the World Series. The Mets were a solid team and finished 96-66, best in the NL, but were 26 games worse than I was. Yet in a seven game series, they beat me four times.

Sometimes even with a sound advantage in every aspect, you come up short. My 122 win team scored over 1,100 runs and had a team ERA of about 3.80, best in the AL and fourth overall. But my 1,100 run offense disappeared during the World Series and cost me a chance at an overall astonishing season. Interestingly enough, the previous season that same team went 105-57 and faced those same Mets in the World Series, beating them in six games.

Billy Beane is pretty much correct when he says all you can control is the regular season and getting your team into the postseason. Once in the postseason, luck plays a huge role and anything can happen.

In the WLB, the team with the best regular season record has won the World Series only once in 9 seasons.

I've had 4 times with 4 different leagues and teams that finished with the best overall record and only one of them made it out of the first round of the playoffs, only to lose the ALCS..

You figure you would have a decent shot though. In one league I'm in we call it the "Commissioner's Cup Curse". The C.C. is the league award for the best record. Took 10 years before a CC team won the series.

My team has won 13 straight division titles; and not always against weaker competition as many times the WC team comes from my division as well with 100+ wins. This last year we had two teams tie with 108 wins...both in my division and they were 10 games behind me. What's my reward for this consistency? How's a 2-16 series record grab you. Only 2 wins (LDS and LCS one year) with the rest all losses in the LDS round and a Series loss the one year I've made it. Very frustrating...
