I'd love to have current error totals/fielding % on the position players on the in-game screen, not range and last years fielding %, (one could find that out from roster screens). For people who play all their games, this would help you keep track of your defensive effectiveness, who is a liability, etc..

I agree with this. I'd rather have current stats than old stats.
However, I would keep range, because that's a current player rating, not an old stat. So player rating and current fielding percentage (and maybe current error total too) would be best, IMO. |

The fielding % shown isn't last year's; it's basically the equivalent of an error rating, and stays the same for a player's entire career (which is something that's always bothered me, but that's another story). A guy with a fielding % listed at .990, for instance, doesn't have an actual fielding percentage of .990 necessarily, but has a 1% chance of making an error on any given chance. It doesn't represent past statistics; it represents future probabilities. Does that make sense, or have I talked myself in circles?

I'd still rather have the current fielding percentage. The player rating is good for an overall talent meter, telling you how good the player is defensively. The defensive rating and the current fielding percentage would be best IMO.

So is that to say that a player who has a 1.000 fielding percentage, will never make an error over his entire career?
