Post Careers with one team

One of the fascinating elements of OOTP is watching player movement and to see who ends up playing their whole career with one team.

IN my 1962 league up to 1979 now, Dave Debusschere opts not to play for the Knicks and is in his 20th season dating back to 1960 as a member of the White Sox. Bob Skinner had played 22 years with the Pirates before ending up on expansion Montreal.

What are some of your "Robin Yount's"

Thats one of the problems with the game, theres never a player that stays with one team...they end up getting traded or sign elsewhere.

Other than the classic players, name a modern player who does play with one team. (by classic, I'm refering to Tony Gwynn, Cal Jr, etc) As a matter of fact, are there ANY current MLB players with more than 10 seasons who have played on the same team? Seems like this is pretty realistic to me. Hell, even Mark Grace left the Cubs.

Hmm...Not many. How long has Delgado been in the majors? About 10 years. Frank Thomas comes to mind. Radke is coming up on 10, if not there. Edgar Martinez would be one. I'm not sure how long Pudge has been in Texas. In the NL, Smoltz and Glavine in Atlanta, and Javy has to be coming up on 10 years, almost said Bagwell, and then remembered he came from Boston, although Biggio has gotta be 10+ years, and that's all that come to mind, although I'm sure there are a few others.

Frank Thomas!

Don't care enough to check up on this, but I'll hazard a guess at a pitcher:
Glavine? Got to be close.

I'd be willing to bet that of all the people just named, at MOST one of them finish their career with their current team. That's just the economics of baseball.

According to my Sporting News, there are only 11 active players who have spent 10+ years with the same club. Glavine and Edgar Martinez lead the pack with 16 seasons with the same club, and Craig Biggio follows them with 15. Smoltzie would be on this list, but he spent part of his rookie year (minors only, I think) with the Tigers. On a related topic, the Sporting News is handy to have.

I wasn't complaining about the game LOL, I find it to be one of those interesting things about the game, to see which of the hundreds of players will end playing their entire career in the same place. Mantle and McCovey didn't play elsewhere in my league as well.

Biggio will be the player to make it to 20 years in one place, he had a chance to come back here (New York) but took less to play in Houston. I think he has hated Long Island since I was in football camp with him in high school.

Hm, looking through the hall of fame, how many players since free agency have played with one team? Just look at the HOFers who have been voted in since 1990. 14 swapped teams, 7 didn't, and of those 7, 2 had pretty short careers (Puckett/Bench) and 1 was really from a different generation of players (Yaz).

Considering that superstars are more likely to stay with the same team for a full career compared to other players, it seems like staying with the same team is pretty rare.

Multiple teams: Ozzie Smith, Dave Winfield, Carlton Fisk, Tony Perez, Nolan Ryan, Don Sutton, Steve Carlton, Reggie Jackson, Tom Seaver, Rollie Fingers, Rod Carew, Gaylord Perry, Ferguson Jenkins, Joe Morgan

Single team: Kirby Puckett, George Brett, Robin Yount, Mike Schmidt, Jim Palmer, Johnny Bench, Carl Yastrzemski

I know Derek Jeter hasnt been with the Yanks for 10 years yet, but he'll probably be one of those guys who finishes his career with the Yankees.

This will be Bonds' 10th season with the Giants, and he'll obviously finish his career with them.

As for OOTP, I have a few guys that play their career with one team, a couple come from other organizations as minor-leaguers too, though. Usually happens with Strong Loyalty rating guys, which makes sense, of course.

Surely you know that he has not played his entire MLB career there?

Jay Buhner - 14 years w/ the Mariners. Like Bonds not his whole career w/ one team but unlike Bonds he was traded and had no choice where he was going.

EDIT: I guess we were looking at current players... sadly Bone had to retire this year due to nagging injuries.

Yeah, but someone also mentioned something about 10 years with a team, so I mentioned Bonds.

You also have to remember that before 76 unless you got released or traded, you didn't have a choice. Barring, I doubt many of the Yankees would have left, but some other players might've.
