Best ideas I've heard so far, along with my own. The first few are in order, then they just list as I thought of them:

1) Player popularity/prestige. This could start at unknown or average, then go either up or down to Legendary or poor, along the same spectrum as coaches/scouts.
2) Draft pick confirm button.
3) Pitcher fatigue bar. Pitchers tire gradually IRL.
4) Player endurance rating or letter grade. Most players need days off, but some players handle fatigue better and can play 160 quality games per year.
5) Better late-career aging model. Player should drop off, yes, but I would like to stop seeing players lose half their talent in one season without being injured. IRL, players generally decline over 3-4 years before retiring. In OOTP, they generally decline over 1-2.
6) Player development based on stats. If a player hits .300 one year, I believe he should have a better chance of a 'getting hits' ratings increase than a decrease. By no means should he DEFINITELY receive an increase, but since increases are random right now, there is no reason not to base them, to some at least tiny degree, on stats.
7) Player suspensions. More likely to occur to unpopular players at random and to those ejected from a game. Multiple suspensions have negative impact on popularity.
8) All-star break home run derby. Why not, just for fun? A good way for solo league players to keep up with the top HR hitters in the league!
9) HOF teams. If nothing else, make the game player decide, but would be nice to have as option.
10) More detailed career stats. I want to see how a player hit for his career with runners in scoring position. I also want to see how well he has hit vsL and vsR if I'm playing talent only. Without career L/R splits, the 'talent only' setting is severely lacking. Also want to see RP career holds. I understand these aren't imported from the Lahman, but put 0's in there then let them add up after the import for historical league. Remember focus as simulation vice replay game engine.
11) GM personalities. I want to see a Bobby Cox-type leave a reliever in a batter longer than others when he's in trouble. I want to see Dusty Bakers who make players want to get traded or sign FA contracts to that team.
12) In-game sounds. More variety of batter intro music, for example. Crowd chants in pressure situations. If nothing else, put in a folder with directories for clean-up hitter, closer, pressure, walk, strikeout, whatever, and let us put in our own sound files. This adds a HUGE feel to the in-game play!
13) Sortable career stats accessible from the team roster pages similar to what FPS used to have. I want to see how my guys stack up to one another for their careers. Also enable for 'display all players of league' menu to easily sort and manipulate career leaders.

I'll stop for now. Rant more later.

I would like to see a better financial system. More like Baseball Mogul, with the ability to set prices for concessions, setting some of the broadcasting stuff, having things tied to the city rather than team or ballpark, and teams competing for the same market.

I'd like to see a better feature regarding building a ballpark, you know likelihood of it getting approved, cost, and things like that

More minor league rosters?

In real life, there is AAA, AA, High A, Low A, Short Season A, and Rookie league. This way we don't have log jams right after the draft in A ball.

Also, I would like to see the 40 man roster/waivers system implemented. Refusing options was a start, but I would still like some limitations on loading up on high level prospects.

And I second the previous post, regarding building ballparks.

Thumbs up

I like the idea of fan favourites and perhaps a table of the league's favourite player?

I would also like to see a newspaper section in the league news so you could read a match report through the eyes of a biased local newspaper journalist then flip to the opposition newspaper and see what they thought of the game.

Also how about the ability to start up as a minor league manager and if you did well enough you could be offered a major league position.

I wish Marcus would fix the glitch in the schedule editor.

When you delete the last game in the left column, it causes the screen to shift down and hide some of the games.

To correct it, you have to delete the first 6 games and then manually reenter them.

It really is a time consuming thing when you manually adjust the schedules, which as everybody knows, the game does not do very well.

I posted this in the other forum but am not sure if it would be better off here so sorry if the crosspost bothers anyone:

My OOTP Wish list:

1. Have the frequency of talent fluctuations as a tweakable setting (Since some people like most players to keep the talent ratings they start with while others like wide fluctuations).

2. An "autopilot mode" which would be the same as computer control of a team except that the computer wouldn't change the strategy settings and would have to ask for permision before making lineup or rotation changes.

3. The ability to have multiple spot starters (kind of like the depth chart has multiple positions for utility players). Would allow to better replicate the much higher use of spot starters in historic leagues.

4. Quite a few players decline more gradually rather than going from "great to crap" in one year. Also some players (like Barry Bonds or Nolan Ryan in RL) should keep their high ratings into their 40s. I know some variation allready exists in OOTP5 but it could be increased.

5.Rainouts (rather than just rain delays) and double header support.

6. A safety squeeze and/or contact play option (runner only tries to score if contact is made)

7. The ability to have more than 10 teams in a league (so you could have two leagues with a with a wild card instead of geographical divisions if you wanted)

8. The ability to steal home, this would have a low chance of success and the runner's stealing ability would be more important than speed. Increase the chance of success a bit if it's part of a double steal.

9. Player's loyalty increases if he's been with the same club for a long time (especially if they've been successful). Maybe a loyal player could also ask for a no-trade clause in his contract.

10. the ability to import ballparks from other leagues (without having to opy the whole park.dat file) also if possible import parks from a historical database.

11. No arguing with umpires about balls and strikes, a manager would automatically get tossed for arguing balls and strikes in real life and it would speed up the game if it didn't ask you if you want to argue with the umpire so much.

12. The ability with one click to see things like all injured players in the league, all tired players in the league, all talent changes that year etc.

[First two are the big ones I'd love to see, the other stuff is pretty minor]

MORE POST-SEASON OPTIONS

Okay, we're on OOTP5 now and there is still no postseason series in a 2-division 1-league format.

Also, it would be nice to have an optional post-season series between the top two teams in a 1-division, 1 league setup.

PLEASE!

I agree. This would be a VERY NICE feature.

I also agree that player loyalty should increase when a player has been with a team for many years. This would allow for the home-town discount that sometimes (but not always - see Roger Clemens w/ Boston and Mark Grace w/Cubs) occurs in real life with longtime players on the same team.

Defensive fielding percentages

One thing that I would really like to see is "in-game","real-time" fielding percentages. The pitchers have their ERAs updated with each out/earned run scored, I'd like to have the defensive players displayed with their actual fielding percentages.

This would make it much easier to see what defensive weaknesses you may have on 1 screen. As it is now, I have to click on each player to see their actual fielding percentage. What is displayed is the fielding percentage the player was imported with (not real valuable when looking for defensive trouble spots.)

I think it would be a nice touch to see a .980 fielding percentage 2nd basemen make an error and have his onscreen percentage drop to .975.

Another example, for a player with a 1.000 fielding percentage, it would also be nice to see some pbp commentary such as "XXX is having a very good year defensively, here we are in August and that's his first error of the season" (if he makes an error.)

Does this make sense to everyone and/or am I in the minority here seeing this as a valuable resource?

Thanks!
lfj

Also....I haven't seen it specifically mentioned (and I may have missed it), but has Markus said anything about manager tendencies in OOTP6 and whether they will adjust automatically based on the type of team the computer currently has?

Agree with you .

It would also be nice if it would post a catcher's caught stealing percentage instead of his fielding percentage.

Cool idea, about updating the players' fielding percentage after each chance they have. I was thinking about that very thing myself the other day.

I`m sure there is room for more options here........
(Sorry if anything I say here has already been posted, I did skim the thread though & not even sure if I'm playing at the wrong level but here goes

The above is a good point. You should be allowed to instruct a batter to "muscle up" or "go the other way" if you have a righty up and a fast runner on first.

Here's a question - do options dissappear due to pitch/out counts & if so why or am I playing at the wrong level?? If I'm a manager I should still be able to hit and run with two strikes if I'm crazy enough to do it. All options should always be available no matter the count.

Have these been suggested yet?

1. I would like the option to keep the original 'real' stats for players when simming career leagues. Also have control on when they retire and the option to turn off career ending injuries. When proceeding to next year, only year and age changes.

2. Doubleheaders in schedule and ability to assign spot-starters for the 2nd game.

3. 'Bench' options. When player is slumping, automatically bench according to user parameters.

4. Catobase built-in. (WinShares, Reports, etc...all this stuff is great!)

5. Get 'MacPlay Inc' to program a Mac version. Keep Mark on the innovation edge...

A few playoff ideas

Personally, I'd like to see the playoffs a bit more revamped. Playoff rosters should be seperate from active 25 man rosters. Because the playoffs come right after the September callups session and a few callups may not appreciate being demoted again (the AAAA types), sometimes you either have to release them or put them on waivers.

I think you should be able to keep your active roster at 40 or whatever and have a seperate area for a playoff roster, fixed at 25. Something like this would allow you to fix your roster between series with ease. Say you kept an extra bat for the five game series and now, in a seven game series, you want another arm in the pen. You just alter your rosters with ease and no worries.

The other thing I would like to see is no using players in the playoffs if you didn't already have him on August 31st in your organization or 40 man or however the majors rule is. I'm not sure...maybe it's already like this, but I swore I saw a player picked up in mid-September and used in the playoffs. Maybe I'm wrong, but anyway, there is a reason there is an August 31st trade deadline.

Just a little one for now, would be nice if the pitcher could be shown getting tired, instead of one pitch he's rated as fine, then suddenly he's in the red!
