No, but look in the FAQ forum for details on how to apply for the future.

Steve, has beta testing started yet?

This is one of those milestone folks like to know.

That makes two of us who applied but never heard anything. I have always wondered what the criteria was for selection.

I wouldn't count on getting a notification if you're not picked. They have never let folks know they weren't picked. I would venture to guess that 500 folks or more have applied. That's a lot of e-mails to send to those who didn't make it.

This is why I think an announcement saying it has started is a good thing. If you're not testing when you see that announcement, then you know you weren't picked.

Being a beta tester is not an easy job or one that should be taken lightly. As one who has been on Markus' beta team, I can tell you there are extremely high standards needed in the areas of accountability, reliability, and perseverance.

Which is exactly why I think I would be perfect. If only I had a thorough opportunity to explain my accountability, reability and perservance which must be enacted at my job. Although, I am sure this is true with many people.

In any event, I can hardly wait for OOTP6 and the baseball season to start. I can smell it. Can anyone else?

It's ironic that when I first got into OOTP4 after I realised life had advanced since OOTP2, I immediately applied to be a beta tester. However, in the last year of having the benefit of the 'company' of guys on this forum who really know what the game is about, I've discovered that I have neither the knowledge, time or sheer-bloody-minded persistance to give the game the kind of workout I hope the beta team do. Consider the application rescinded!

All I can smell is somebody's lunch. Who brings cabbage to work?? But yeah, I can't wait for OOTP6 either. It's one of only two games I'm really looking forward to this year.

Exactly, Doug. I know being a beta tester sounds cool and all but it doesn't mean "Here's a copy of the game. Have fun and tell me what you think." which is sort of the impression I get from some of the folks who have clamored in the past to be considered (no present company in this thread included).

Nice caveat. I know what you mean. I know that it has got to be a lot of hard work. With the reputation that this game has, hard work has got to be a pre-requisite for beta-testers.

And, in regards to that Cabbage at work? Not sure. The only thing I smell here at work is someone's Taco Bell.

Now I know why the nation's productivity rate is down. Workers spend all their time visiting message boards and websites instead of doing work!!!

Well, if they quit cutting benefits, we might be more interested in working that eating

Which is why they should pay people to go to message boards, and we would see a jump in productive hours.

If the problem won't go away, redefine it.

Yeah, I would say you probably should be prepared to spend at least an hour per day on testing. When I've been a tester in the past, I've actually taken time off of work to have the extra time to devote to it.

Don't forget those brave few who have died in computer explosions wrought by buggy beta code.

Rest in peace, guys, today we salute you.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

What exactly do beta testers do? Try to crash the product? Run leagues and check stats/finances/trade AI for reasonableness?

I'm guessing these things barely scratch the surface.

Can anyone who's actually been on a beta team enlighten me?
