When do you promote

I was wondering how most of you handle your minor leagues. Do you promote players base on you own evaluation, are you influenced by the Minors Report or do you wait for the email from your scout?

Depends on need and best guess as to what's right for the prospect in question. I often promote before the minors report says to and have some good success in doing so.

For promotions from A to AA and AA to AAA I rely mostly on the minors report. For AAA to the big leagues I use my own judgement, based on what needs I have, the age of the prospect, his ratings vs. what I anticipate his max ratings could be based on talents, and what his leadership rating is (I'm kidding about one of those).

This is only for promoting within your minor league system, right? Because bringing them up to the big show is a whole different can of worms.

BTW, it also depends on the overall talent level within my organization. I'd rather have a guy sit in AA an extra season than bring him up to AAA and have him sit behind another top prospect.

Like most have said, I usually base promotion to the majors based on need. If I have a huge prospect with decent ratings in AAA, but a stud already in place, I leave him in AAA. If I have no one to play that same position I bring him up. So its all about situations.

Usually in the player pages in my online leagues I'll see that they say he could be ready for(A,AA,AAA, or big leagues)...However I go merely on how they are performing in that level. 2ndly I'll take a look at how their ratings are looking.

Take a look at Bubba Nelson in AA(going to be AAA on my request). He's 21, and has purely dominated in AA, I believe he's going to be ready for AAA already by the seasons end.

Basically I make the final decision - but only after using all the input factors of the game.

The only things I look at are stats and ratings. I usually promote mainly on stats. I like to have a player prove he is dominant at one level before moving him up, or if a guy had good numbers for a year or two at a level I'll move him up. The only time I rush someone is if he is getting old for the level, like if I have a 23 yr old in A ball I'll move him up because its time for him sink or swim.

I have been doing it the way Henry describes. I have on occasion, promoted based on my own instict and stat evaluation but, if I see the "not ready for" message or the email from scout saying it is hurting the player, I demote. For those of you who voted "I trust my own evaluation skills" do you ignore the minors report and emails or are you taking everything in like Henry?

I use stats and ratings to judge too. The Minors report and emails influence me a little but not much.
