How good is Portis?
Is he highest paid running back in the league good? Or is he Daniel Snyder overpays for everybody good. This is an astonishing contract for someone people have said is a product of a good offensive line.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...len&id=1748249 So, tell me people, is he worth it?

Portis is very good. 5.5 YPC for his 1st 2 seasons is very impressive. Its never been done. and over 3,000 yards in his 1st 2 seasons is just as impressive. I think Portis is worth the 50.5 million for 8 years or whatever it was...Hes a franchise back.

I don't know that he has "proven it" beyond a shadow of a doubt or if he is even that good but maybe just about any back could run fairly well in the Broncos system and behind their line. I mean Davis, Anderson, Gary and now Portis......just not sure which it is.

Here is an example of the Broncos last three runningbacks in their best season. It really makes you wonder if it is the back or the system.
Davis 392 2008 5.1 21 Gary 276 1159 4.2 7 Anderson 297 1500 5.1 15 Portis 290 1591 5.5 14 |

I think Portis is good, but he's not the best back in the league. And if your paying him that much, he better be. By the way, anyone know what the number is for Bailey's pending contract. I hear it's supposed to make him one of, if not the highest paid defensive players in the league.

As a Denver Broncos fan, I like Clinton Portis, but this contract is ridiculous. He has only been in the league for two years, and he hasn't started all 16 games in either one. The Redskins give out these contracts like they are playing with monopoly money. It is becoming more, and more obvious to me that they have no clue how to run a franchise.

I'd rank Portis around #5 for best runningbacks in the league. I think he played in a very good system with a very good line, but I also think he is a very good back.
Top 5 IMO: Tomlinson Holmes Green Faulk Portis |

You could make an argument that he's the best running back in the league (a very flimsy argument, IMO), but there's absolutely no way he's that much better than every other running back in the league. That's an insane contract, and Daniel Snyder has just damned his team to cap hell for a long time. There are about 10 elite running backs in the league, and another 10 or so that, given playing time in a good system, could probably reach that level. It's crazy to spend that much on a position that has that much depth of talent league-wide.

Portis, behind the sham O-line the skins will have this year, IMO will be lucky to break 1000 yards. No matter how good a RB is, he aint worth jack without a decent line and thats gonna be true for portis this year. The redskins will once again be a joke, which is unfortunate for Gibbs. They'll have no line and 2 QB's making big money.

I'm sure gibbs has a say in who they get. It's not like Snyder saying, you take what I give you, or shove the 25 million your going to make up your ass.

The Redskins have no clue! They give everybody like a 25% markup on their contracts, you only need to look at Moss and Morton last year. Portis is good but that contract is crazy. There are a ton of running backs, they could save the money and try and get one of the big time backs in the draft. Portis wont even have a 4.5 avg in Washington. Plus the fact that he's not the most durable back makes it even worse. Portis should have stayed in Denver and put up ridiculous numbers and had a shot at becoming one of the all time greats, instead he ran for the money and his ego allowed him to think he can do it anywhere and now he'll take a step back. Its something about Colorado, why would a baseball hitter ever leave Coors field and why would a running back ever leave Mile High.

I Think Washingtons line is good. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Portis has his best year next season.
