Joe once again falls victim to a lack of run support.
He gave up one lousy earned run in 8 innings against a very good Anaheim team, and gets a no decision out of it. He faltered a bit in his next start, surrendering 4 ERs in 6 innings against Texas, which currently has the 2nd best record in our league. Once again, he earns a no decision. Torres started out the season with a 3 in Avoiding Runs, and now sits at a 5. Amid accusations of my tanking the season, Torres continues to improve along with MR/CL Nathaniel Reynosa. Funny. If I was tanking, these two guys wouldn't be on my ML squad.

I had a very similar situation in one of my leagues. Had a guy just hanging around in AAA. (3 for avoid runs...pretty much average across the board) and then at age 26 got a huge talent bump. Going into Spring Training he was about 4 for avoid runs. After one season in the league he now looks like this:
My Guy He is now one of the most dominating pitchers in our league and a great bargin. My advice would be to sign him long term and watch him get better. If he takes a talent hit then you aren't out that much. |

![]() Torres continues to roll, but still can't buy any run support. His latest outing saw him give up 5 hits over 7.1 innings, with no runs (earned or otherwise). He struck out six and walked 2. He earned both PoG honors and a no decision (again). KC ended up winning the game 1-0. The game before this one (also against Cleveland), this guy threw a no-hitter. Gotta love those scrubs. (League export hasn't been updated yet.)

I had a few years were my AAA team was overloaded with good pitchers, and I ended up with a few 26 year olds waiting for people to retire. I ended up trading a few of them, and a few of them ended up developing, while some didn't. It's sort of hit or miss, basically just like with prospects.
And I've noticed that a good homer and control rating will win games. I called it the "Graves Effect," after Danny Graves won the 2003 Cy Young in my first solo league. But they usually need at least a four rating for runs for it to work. |

(I don't care if it has zero to do with OOTP, I can't get enough of The Princess Bride)
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The first is never get involved in a land war in Asia. The second, only slightly less well known, is this: never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Soundbite: http://www.geocities.com/bithevn/PBride/Blunder.wav |

Keep him. I've seen a ton of pitchers really develop in their early 30's and be dominant for 5-7 years. Check out Freddie Fitzsimmons in my Uniform history league. He is in the HOF thread linked at the bottom. He went crazy around 5 seasons into his career.

Wow I just noticed this thread for the first time, and I took a look at the guy, who is a 4.0 start player, who just finished a great season, and go on to read he he impoved that much over one season. It makes you wonder sometime. I now have to ask, why did you trade him? Like edm said, you better have got some good players back in return!

What did you get for him? Why trade a guy who was low cost, low risk and was improving so much?
