Cato: Run time error 713 on first use

I downloaded Cato and CommishJoe's exporter, and followed the instructions. I created a 'History' folder, and it seems to have created an Access DB for the league. Then I go to file/open in the history program and open the Access DB that has been created. It seems to open, as all the buttons like "import stats" become clickable. But when I click on file/options, I get "Run-time error '713': Class not registered. Looking for object with CLSID:{5924... and a bunch more letters and numbers}"

Also, when I try to import stats it tells me to look for odd characters in line 2 of my league.csv file. It also tells me to open the file using Notepad, and look for problems in line 2, but the file is 2 very long lines and I don't see any obvious problems.

I don't know if this is at all relevant, but when I first tried to create the file and then open it immediately afterwards, I was got an error message saying that the file was being used by another application, but when I closed the history program and then opened it again I didn't have that problem anymore.

Any help would be appreciated!

I get this too (the problem with line 2). I also had problems with kq's OOTP archive, and I reckon its something to do with the way my computer stores .csv files.

I have never got this wonderful program to work - I posted something up about this 6 months ago, but never got any responses, and I figured I might ride Manny's coattails to a solution!

Could be several errors occuring here, and with these apps often the first error you get will result in several follow up errors all related to that same thing. In this case it may be some errors in installation of the application.

The VB 713 error is usually related to a missing "MSBIND.DLL" file that should be installed to your Windows\System32 folder. Did you install the full version of OOTP History (OOTP History v4.1 I believe) before upgrading to the OOTP5?

The csv line 2 error is usually related to using the wrong CSV Exporter version. Make sure you are using the one linked on Jeff Cato's OOTP History downloads page (jcato.net).

You posted about 6 months ago with 2 OOTP History issues that were resolved by using the correct CSV Exporter (the one linked on Jeff Cato's DL page) and by using OOTP History after a season instead of at the beginning of a season. Your final response in that thread was a thx guys & you would try those suggestions. Did you post elsewhere besides this forum with other Cato OOTP History issues? Some of these issues are tough to nail down but IMO we have been able to solve a majority of the errors.

I did install the older version of history before the v5.3 upgrade. I checked my Windows\System32 folder and there weren't any MSBIND.DLL files. There are lots of .dll files in the file where I installed the history program, though, including MSBIND.DLL. Were all of these files supposed to end up in my Windows\System32 file? Should I move all the .dll files? What about the .ocx files?

Thanks!

I recall hearing about a similar error when someone chooses FILE --> OPTIONS and that error was the result of the wrong MDB file. Make very sure you download and unzip the "Update from 4.x " file (link is http://www.jcato.net/downloads/history/histv500.zip) before you choose the "Update to 5.3 " link. That "Update to 5.3 " link assumes you have already DLed and unzipped the "Update from 4.x " file first. Safety Note: You likely are but make absolutely sure you are unzipping these files into whatever folder you installed OOTP History into.

If that is not the answer then we need to look more closely at the initial install. I don't recall DLL or OCX files in the OOTP History program folder, but I am at work so I can't confirm this. Others that have the program installed on their PC can hopefully confirm this but what this sounds like is that instead of running the setup.exe program, you just unzipped the OOTPHIST.CAB file into a directory named History, and that is not how this is supposed to be installed. From jcato.net: "Unzip and run setup.exe" <- that unzip means unzip just the downloaded ZIP file into a temp local directory, then run the 'setup.exe' installation file. The setup.exe file will move the contents of the OOTPHIST.CAB file (including the DLL and OCX files) into all the correct directories - it will also install MDAC and regester the DLL's and classes it installs.

One or both of those suggestions should probably get you going on the correct path, good luck.

I certainly didn't mean to sound like I was being ungrateful in any way. I tried these, but then had exactly the same problem with kq's archive (the non-recognition of csv files), along with many issues with statistics packages I use at work. I then spent several days looking at the way my computer handled .csv information. I just reckoned it was an isolated example due to the way I had my computer configurated for me in the process of enabling several stats programs. When Manny posted, I thought I should chime in as well that it could be a problem with the .csv issue.

The help I have had from all those has been greatly appreciated - no post has ever gone unanswered. I have watched CATO and kq's archive work on other people's computers. I just had a little quiver of hope that it might not only be me that had this .csv issue, and I wondered whether there would be a resolution.

Apologies again if I sounded ungrateful - it was meant to sound just the opposite.

EDIT: Just realised I wrote 'never got any responses'. I clearly did. Christ knows what I was thinking. Many apologies.

Hey, no probs, I didn't mean to sound like I was scolding. The correct CSV Exporter (the link on the www.jcato.net downloads page) combined with making absolutely sure the correct version of the OOTP History program should fix all the line 2 csv errors. There are many other types of csv errors though, but they would be different errors from the fairly common line 2 error that MannyTrillo mentions.

If you have the line 2 CSV error I would urge you to redo the install steps as described at www.jcato.net (including using the CSV Exporter from www.jcato.net ) and trying your import one more time. If that still fails feel free to PM me for my email address so you could send me the csv files. I am only about 50% succesful in the "send me files" sweepstakes but I feel pretty confident the line 2 csv issue is a fixed problem so we should be able to get your league working.

Uh... well, I think the instructions were very unclear, it should say 'run setup.exe' in big red letters rather than just little black ones (just kidding... somehow I overlooked that part of the instructions, sorry). The newer version of the exporter solved the other problem. Thanks for the suggestions, they were exactly right... I've got it working now!
