CBL...Thanks for all of the hard work on the set. I simmed April and it really does look like the ratings are pretty right on. Question though, and maybe this is due to something unfinished, or my lack of knowledge about the game. In April there were about a hundred free agent signings, and some just didn't make sense. Like, I was watching the Expos, and they sent Tony Batista to the minors, signed Matt Williams, and Todd Zeile, Some players were signed to a $0 contract for 0 years. Am I missing something here?

mkbdoe,
You are correct. Currently, too many "scrub" Free Agents have either: * Too high ratings OR * Too high talent ratings. Be assured this will be addressed in the next version! Zero Dollar contracts are probably minor league offers to Free agents. |

Great job CBL, I have been working on my own 2004 roster set and I know how time consuming it is. After looking over your ratings I have to say I am very impressed. I have stopped my set and am just going to tweek yours a little here and there but overall it is an awesome set. Can't wait to get the next version with added prospects and cleaned up free agents.

Heath,
Although I do not play modern day baseball via OOTP. I wanted to say that you and the 4 guys that helped you in this roster set, provided an invaluable contribution to the the Community as a whole. I am sure many future GMs of OOTP 2004 leagues will hold you in the highest respect and awe. JT

Thanks again guys for the positive feedback.
As we speak, I am busy entering ALL 975 Prospects found in John Sickels 2004 Baseball Prospect Book. The next update will be huge; I anticipate 1.3 out in under two weeks. (* Again, time TBA due to job + full time college load!) Take care guys, Heath |

*Quick Update*
Gentlemen, By last name, I am in the "G's" section of John Sickels book. Alot of information; but the two week projection is still realistic for the release of v1.3 (current rosters + 975 minor leaguers). In the next few days I'll keep everyone updated on the progress! Again, thanks for the positive feedback! (PS- Also added Kerry Wood's extension + Gabe White's Arb.) |

Hey, I just downloaded this, I was wondering. How big of a difference does it make with the coaches/scouts turned off? Does it influence the game at all or what??

It only makes a difference in how players are SEEN basically.

I downloaded the set this morning and have been playing with it on and off all day. Nice work so far. Thanks a ton.

*UPDATE*
Gentlemen, I am currently on the "J's" (by last name) of the prospects in John Sickel's Baseball Prospect Book 2004. My final day for class this week is Wednesday night; therefore a majority of my work on the prospects will take place later in the week (Thursday-Sunday). I'd like to get the complete version out by ~ March 15 (Monday). As always, I'll keep everyone up-to-date on my progress! Basically, I am trying to rate the prospects "As best as possible" according to Sickel's rating system. All prospects in his book are rating A through C- "A Prospects"are the Elite prospects (only 10 or so fit this elite status) C- are guys who will probably never see the big leagues; Here is a rough estimate on the prospect ratings, and how they relate to OOTP's "Blue stars" Sickel's rating----OOTP Blue stars ratings A: 4.5-5.0 A-: 4.0-4.5 B+:4.0 B: 3.5 B-: 3.0 C+: 2.5-3.0 C: 2.0-2.5 C-: 2.0 Ratings/Talents are also disbursed by his analysis of the player's tools; generally I've also tried to rate them at the level of baseball they will are expected to play in 2004. If a player is expected to play AA Ball, I'll bump is Avoiding Runs or "Getting Hits" rating to accomidate competition at that level. I think in the end a majority of the people will be happy with the set; I'm personally looking forward to finishing and actually PLAY games soon! Take care, Heath |

Can this roster set be used as a free agent pool for a "Custom League"? I am starting a new online league and would like to use this as a starting point, but want to retain the name of my league. If I use this roster set, it seems as though I'm forced to use CBL v1.2 as the league name.
Excellent job on this roster set. Call me impressed... |

Phan,
You can name the league folder anything you want. Once you start the league, the name of "MLB 2004" remains at the top right no matter what the actual folder name is. After you d/l the file, just rename the folder anything you want! |

Excellent. You know...I thought I tried this and when I tried to open the league after I changed the folder name, it crashed OOTP. I'll try again.
One other question; How do the salary amounts in your roster set compare to what they would be if I just downloaded the Lehman database? Does OOTP just assign salaries based on talent ratings in that case? I'm trying to decide what would be a better starting point for my (Career mode) online league. I'd like to use your roster set since it has had so much great work done on it. Thanks again. (Bonds 8-18-19? Holy Cow. Never seen ratings so high...) |
