Is it conceivable...

that this guy could develop into a dominating pitcher? Is there a noticeable age where players stop developing? He's solid in every area except for avoiding hits and runs.

My team is absolutely horrid right now, and I've gotten several trade offers on him. I'm rebuilding for the future, but if a possibility exists that this guy will develop further, I'm likely to hold onto him and build around him. Otherwise, I should take the best offer for him.

Opinions?

I have had guys who turned 26 and were no longer has a prospect rating but still had the potential to be an ace, some guys like this will develop others wont. My opinion would to keep the guy in the minors and see if he develops. I had a player similiar to the one you indicated who didnt even develop untill he was 27 and all of a sudden became a Cy Young winner. You never know though, keep him in development for another year or so and see what happens.

Yes, it is quite conceivable. He could end up being a late bloomer and dominating the league in his 30s like Randy Johnson or something. It does happen in OOTP. The only thing is that, because he is already 26, there's a stronger chance that won't happen than there would have been if he were younger.

Keep him - he is doing well in the majors and will continue to. You are getting many offers because other GM's think you might undervalue him due to his low current avoid runs rating.

I'd keep him. He looks hideously undervalued at 1.5 stars now, and is still a couple of years away from hitting his prime. He also looks like the kind of guy who's career will take off in the new OOTP6 engine (with no avoiding hits rating dragging him down).

I agree with the others. Most of his ratings are already very good. His hit rating against righties is solid. Once the other ratings fill in some more, this guy could be a 20 game winner... and not too far down the line either.

Personally, I don't care about the stars thingy. I'd keep him for sure.

Stars are a useful guideline, but in cases like this, they can be deceptive. I was skeptical when Markus said he was going to add this star rating to the game, because I thought it would make strategies a bit too easy. It has been more of a tool than anything, though.

Once the last 3 ratings are over 6, (avoiding HR, Walks, Getting Strikouts) I think you are pretty dumb not to bring a guy up. The avoiding hits and runs ratings arent everything

Looks a lot like this player. Thats a player you keep, regardless of stars.

You actually might want to try signing this guy to a long term deal.

Well, good luck. I actually book marked this thread so I can keep an eye on his season/career

Looks like he had a tuff outing his last time out, though, he could use some more run support. Just 3 runs in his last 3 games...

that guys got nothing on my prospect. His birthday just occurred and he went from a prospect in the eyes of the league to meaningless.

(BOSI says he's average, good, brilliant, brilliant brilliant. I know you can't tell his ratings... but he's still in AA!)

My experience has shown me that a guy with good avoid hrs and control can be dominant even with a lower runs rating. Keep him around he's already pitched pretty solid in the majors.

Torres picked up his second win of the season, pitching 8 decent innings (albeit against an equally weak Detroit squad) and only giving up 2 ERs.

He's now 2-4 with a solid 3.00 ERA, and he's got 43 SOs in 66 IPs.

I'll track his progress throughout the season here, for whoever's really bored waiting for OOTP6.

Completely agree. There's been times where I've seen a pitcher with an "average" talent rating in avoiding hits, and the number is on the low, low side of talents, that has brilliants in avoding homers and walks put up a mid to low 3 ERA.

I like Joe. He's won at every level.

Who are you going to believe, the scouts or the W-L record?
