Wow

I'm on the outside of this all, but being in the tMBU, I feel like I should post my biased opinion (since that seems the trendy thing to do). I don't know the details, but if JSB didn't make anyone aware of using the homepage, he should have. But, I think I speak for the majority when I say that I really couldn't care less who's work it is. If I had spent the countless hours making the site, I might feel differently, but as a person who is in a few leagues, it really doesn't matter. Do you guys make money off of these pages that Josh is now benefiting from by taking the site design? Do you have that much web traffic from people other than league owners? So why 6 pages of argument over the principle? Can we not just shake hands as OOTP geeks and get on with our lives? They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I admit that the design for the original page is as nice as I've seen. So why not take the compliment and let those of us who are only here for the enjoyment of online baseball leagues simply enjoy being apart of an online baseball leage.

this has already been beat to death

all I'll say is that hundreds of hours of work being claimed by someone else as their own is a slap in the face at the very least

A slap in the face, but nothing that adults cannot discuss and settle...

200 hours of work between the two of us who designed it, we were just asking for some courtesy. You know, not to take something and claim it as your own?

But whatever, its being handled, it was a slow day for the FOBL before that (down part of the offseason). Life moves on.

Is the 'wow' part that you actually believe what you just typed?

If so, then I agree - WOW!

I agree, and I'm glad that this did come out so you guys can get the credit you deserve. But my point was to agree with MrIllini, this has been beat to death for what it was. I think it could have been handled between the two commissioners through e-mails and instant messages, not on the OOTP message board.

While I agree that it was probably over the top, I think it needs to be a matter of public record. The site was stolen and it's important that A) people know we don't take it quietly and B) people know what the commish of the league is capable of. This will hopefully prevent future instances of this messiness and also maybe make people think twice about what they're doing.

Posted in another thread, but still relevant.

How about I break into your house, take your car keys, steal your car, and slap my own license plate on it. Then I can drive over to your house and gloat about the great new car I just got.

The best part is, when you start whining about how it's actually your car, I have the right to get indignant and bitchslap you for trying to raise a fuss.

Sound good to you?

I do this (web design) for a living...at least I try to. Between us, Malificent and I put in close to 200 hours of work on the FOBL site. And we did it for nothing. If I were selling that work to a client, I'd be able to feed my family for a couple of months.

If you don't want to deal with the collecting reaction of the FOBL, quit ripping off our ****. Grow up and put some friggin effort into your own site. If you have no coding skills or creativity, then a) maybe you shouldn't be trying to run a website in the first place, and b) if you really need something, go use one of the phpNuke scripts. They're free.
If nothing in there resonates with you, then you're probably the kind of person who copied and pasted your school essays from the Internet or an encyclopedia and never thought twice about it, so long as you never got caught. In which case, it's pretty pathetic, and nothing I can say is going to change your mind anyway.

And I am very flattered that people like my design enough to want to use it on their own site. But, as mentioned above, what pisses me off is using the copyright verbatim, and substituting their own name. Look at the footer of the tMBU homepage. Then look at ours. You know, right above the part where it says "If you want to use something from this site, for the love of God, please ask."

Funny, I didn't think that last line was all the difficult to understand.

This has always been easy to settle: your commish removes all stolen materials from his site, and we quit bitching.

Not to mention the links on the contact page that still have FOBL team cities linked. No wonder they don't work.

Then why'd you bring it up again, hammerhead? If both it has already been beaten to death and it has pretty much petered out, why fan the flames? Your guy was wrong. Dead wrong. He stole and was happy to get away with it for as long as he could, and "imitation being the sincerest form of flattery" is irrelevant. The only reason I can come up with for why you posted is because you feel guilty about or embarassed by how bad your league looks in all of this, but not being a real man, you can't stand to accept the consequences of that. So, you would rather try to create the illusion that the FOBL is somehow wrong in all of this, perhaps even more wrong than your league was. Sorry, buddy, we ain't buying that.

I agree, but you're not selling this site, and not feeding your family with it. If someone had taken money from your pocket, then I'd be leading the charge to see the offender tortured in public. My point is that it's an online baseball site... One that you spent 200 hours on for the enjoyment of people wanting to play sim baseball. I wouldn't take that 200 hours away from you, just as I wouldn't copy and paste anyone else's work as my own in school. I do wish though, that this could have been settled in a different fashion instead of the assertion of online baseball league dominance that this has become. As a league member, I say fine, you guys are the premier league with the most savvy owners and the best web design. Our lowly league wished to immitate you guys. Our hand was caught in the cookie jar, and now, as the papa bear league, you can lay your vengence upon us. "Rick James" slap us if you wish, but the majority of us just want to be a part of an enjoyable league. If there's a problem between people and the peope that run it, settle it so we can get on with why we're even posting to this message board.

First of all, you're very hot when you grovel like that. I mean, you are making me very tight in the diapers.

Secondly, IF YOU WANT THE STUPID PROBLEM TO JUST BE SETTLED BY THE PEOPLE WHO RUN THE LEAGUES, STOP POSTING ABOUT THE STUPID PROBLEM!!! Are you such a dumb donkey that you can't figure that out?

Now, crawl back to your own personal pit of despair where you compulsively masturbate to fantasies of owning a FOBL franchise.

It has nothing to do with Online League Dominance.

It has to do with respect. The league powers that be completely and utterly disrespected the FOBL.

Some of us were very childish and showed the same lack of respect right back.

Some of us decided it should be pointed out here. Let it be known that the league powers of the TMBU were no-good thiefs.

Oh, but ya, we do kick ass.
