Red face XP Remote Sessions not enabled?

OK, I'll be honest. I'm excited...very excited. However, due to <ahem> restrictions at the office, it's very doubtful that I'd be able to load the software up there.

However, XP has that wonderful remote desktop utility that I can log into the home system and run stuff from it.

However, when the program starts, there's a little note at the bottom that says,

"This product is not enable for remote sessions."

Is this a licensing thing? Some way that I'll be able to generate something from the office? Argh!

What is up with this??!!

I have the same problem! I can't purchase OOTP4 from a Remote Desktop Session in XP!

I HOPE once I go home and log in locally and purchase OOTP4 I can play from a remote session. Can someone answer this? If not I may not purchase OOTP4, as I am at work a lot.

I believe you won't be able to do this in XP for the same reason that you can't open the game if someone else is also logged onto your system in XP.

But no one else is logged into my machine!

What's the official word on this?

A lot of us play from work on our home machines, and if this was blocked on purpose it was a bad move.

I'd just get rid of Remote Sessions and use VNC or something like that.

Remote sessions scared me while I was using XP.

I would think that it's just a elicense issue.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's VNC?

Red face

Found out what VNC is, Virtual Network Computing

However, there is no mention of it working on Windows XP, and also isn't it still a remote session and wouldn't it still not work?

Anyone??

OK, just talked with eLicense, and here's the deal...

With each purchase of the game, you'll get 3 licenses. This allows you to install the game in three locations and "use" it from three locations.

So in my case, here's what ya have to do to get the thing to run through remote desktop.
1.) Install the game on the home machine.
2.) Install the game on the work machine. (Don't go wiggy, yet...read on.)
3.) Put in the order number for both places, which will add a registry key with the "license" info.
4.) Uninstall the game on the work machine. It will STILL leave the license info on the system, even though the full software has been uninstalled.
5.) Remote desktop to your machine, and viola! you're baseballing!

(This technical support quandry brought to you by Ubertech! For all your wasting time at work needs....)

And of course, as soon as I tried this, it didn't work.

So I'm trying to get back in touch with them and see what the deal is.

Heh, figures. My luck with viatech isn't that great. Their support isn't the greatest. I can remember the days when I had to contact them for more liscenses because of a couple hard drive crashes with OOTP3.

Let us know what the say!

OK, talked with eLicense again. And here's the latest scoop...

My above listed steps...should work!

but of course, they don't. The guy that I talked to was with me on the phone while I went through the whole process once again. (With him on the phone every step of the way.)

He's now going to go check with the engineers and find out what the heck is up...but you might give what I had listed above a try again... It might work for you!

More details as I get them...

I would be amazed if you got this to work.

Unhappy

Does anybody who's gotten OOTP5 know if playing via Remote Desktop is supported in the new version? I was quite disappointed to find out that nobody's been able to get it to work in OOTP4 (which I currently have).

Erm... Beg to differ. My wife's account is always logged in and OOTP runs fine.

Do you mean if the OTHER account has OOTP licenced as well?

Elicence is starting to sound like a really crappy system.
