Global Boxing Experience
We proudly introduce:
THE GLOBAL BOXING EXPERIENCE - The Professional Boxing League The leading boxing promoters around the world could not ignore the sorry state of their trade anymore and decided that drastic action is needed to awake boxing from its current lethargy. To bring back boxing from the margins of the sports world to the center they agreed to a new form of competiton: a boxing league with teams all over the world. This is the first global sports league ever formed which poses numerous organisational challenges, but also nearly limitless marketing opportunities. The format: The league has 12 teams European Division London Paris Berlin Düsseldorf Maxx Atlantic Division New York Philadelphia Detroit Mexico City Pacific Division Los Angeles Las Vegas Tokyo Sydney Each team fights a regular season of 14 matches in consecutive weeks, the division leader and one wild-card team qualify for the play-offs. The winners of the semifinals meet in the the GLOBAL CLASH to determine the champion. Each match consists of bout in 12 weight divsions, each bout last for 3 3-minute rounds. A KO or TKO victory adds 3 points, a point victory 2 points and a draw 1 point to a team`s score. A fighter, who loses by KO or TKO is banned from next week`s match, a 2nd KO results in a 4-week ban. All team can sign new fighters freely. Additionly to the team competition the individual honor of GLOBAL CHAMPION is awarded to the boxer with the best won-loss record (min. 10 bouts) in each weight division. So far so good: I now need the input of you fellow board members. So far I have only one team nickname, Düsseldorf Maxx, which alludes to German all-time boxing legend Max Schmeling, who happened to fight his first pro fight in Düsseldorf, so I need your suggestion for fitting nicknames for the other cities. The next step is filling each teams lineups. I´ll keep you posted. |

Here would be some of my first impression suggestions ,
The Paris Orchid men , not a real tough name but in honor of Carpentier who is so revered there. Los Angeles Olympians- from the Auditorium which had so much history there. Detroit Hit men? or Kronk K.O's? Philly Rocks? (sorta going with Rocky theme or even the philly underdogs. New York Gardeners? (Tying in with M.S.G.) Sydney Rushcutters? (tying in Rushcutter Bay) Mexico City Arriba or Boxeodores Tokyo Samurai? seems to fit those are the ones I can think of suggesting at this time If you need some more ideas i'll try and think of some. |

Hey... You can't use the name Global!
My fictional universe is GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Just joking! I wish you the best with this league. It sounds like it is going to be interesting. I think you ought to call the London team : The London Lefties and have all your boxers be southpaws! Last edited by JohnnyBemch; 02-21-2004 at 01:52 PM. |

So did you conduct a draft to place team members? Its a very interesting concept. Sometimes I think all of the ideas that we are producing here should be considered , God knows the powers that be in boxing only have bad ones.

Yes, I used a draft scheme. It was based on the boxer`s rating in TBCB. I also took care that each team had at least 2 fighters from that team`s country and in case of boxer`s having the same rating, I had European teams pick European fighters or Mexico pick Mexican or Latin American fighters.
I need some feedback about injuries from boxing experts. I want to have them includud in my boxing league. How long does it take for a gash or a swollen eye to heal on average? cut, gash, lip, swollen eye : is that the correct order of seriousness? |

just a very general rule of thumb is that for every stitch means every month off. 4 stitches/4 months off

I know the commentary does not say how many stitches it took the next day to close the wound but I suppose you could always roll a 6 sided die and make that the time off if there is an injury. Old time fighters would have just said the hell with it and be back in the ring alot sooner so thats also something to consider too.

Just coming in: the latest result from the first GLOBAL BOXING EXPERIENCE EVENT on European soil:
Dusseldorf Maxx 14 London Gunners 8 at London,UK The biggest upset was the unanimous decision win by Juan Carlos Gomez, DUS over Lennox Lewis, LON. Gomez dominated the 1st and 3rd round, but was close to being knocked down in the 2nd. The most exciting fight took place in the cruiserweight division between Johnny Nelson, LON and O`Neill Bell, DUS. Both fighters scored knockdowns, but Bell prevailed at the end in a point decision. |
