Just got down playing 2004 with rolen's rosters and very strangely there was no NL Rookie of the Year. There was however an AL one, so I wanted to make sure there were some NL rookies who qualified, and there were quite of few position players with over 250 ab, and rookie pitchers with over 60 ip, so my question is why did this happen? Another add to the story, I just installed the new patch around playoff time, any possibility there is a bug in the new patch?

I'm fairly certain that the players have to have more playing time than that to be considered(atleast within the game), but not sure of the exact requirements. If I were to guess it would be same requirements to win batting title or ERA crown.
Would be nice to be able to adjust these however.

You can award your own Rookie of the Year in these situations, just review the stats, make your choice and edit the league history file (and the player history if you so choose) to reflect your selection for rookie of the year.
The game seems to require (as Steve mentioned) that players eligible for the award be qualifiers for the Batting Average or ERA crowns. |

I had a rookie who started 30 games, going 16-5, 3.46 era, and the game didn't award anybody as roy that year. he didn't show up in some of the stats leaders as rookie (era) but did at wins. it was his first season. |

I believe the qualifier is 162 IP (or 1 IP per game your team played). |

Is this pro-rated based on the # of games you use in your season? I'm doing a solo 'softball' play league where there's only 40 games, so will I get ANY awards?

If you used the schedule generator to set the number of games in your season you'll have no issues getting award winners. If not, you should still get some (but not all) of the award winners and some of the leaders.
The quick way to check is to look at the magic numbers for the teams in your league (from the News section -> Standings report), if the magic numbers are based on a 40 game season you are alright, if they are based on 162, well then you might not get all the records etc. that you were expecting. You'll have to enter the average/percentage records manually and correct the problem by first backing up the schedule file (save with a different name), then deleting the schedule file, generating a 40 game schedule, then replacing it with your old schedule.dat file. Hope this helps [ 04-15-2002, 01:19 PM: Message edited by: ScottVib ] |

Sometimes the computer is really strapped for picks. One year, it gave the ROY to a pitcher who was something like 9-15 with an ERA near 5.00. I guess it was just a terrible rookie class.
