Shoeless Joe

I'm doing my first Historical league, and I had a question for everybody who has done one. I started in 1901 and am up to 1915. I'm using Ankit's DB, and Shoeless Joe has become a monster. I'm wondering has anyone else seen somebody who has had a great beginning to their career. Now keep in mind, these are his stats after his first 5 years.

G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
158 612 231 34 8 6 94 100 78 87 26 15 .377 .448 .489 .936
158 636 230 26 12 6 89 108 63 48 23 14 .362 .419 .469 .888
161 644 238 39 13 5 84 111 61 56 22 17 .370 .424 .494 .918
148 575 224 29 8 2 69 85 75 43 26 12 .390 .460 .478 .938
147 558 236 35 13 5 91 121 77 41 24 17 .423 .496 .559 1.055

He's won the Nap Lajoie award all 5years (MVP)

So, anyone else have an outstanding 5 early years?

Quick edit to now include 1915 total stats, his best year yet.

I fixed that for ya!

Man, at that pace he'll reach 3000 hits at a very young age. I've never done a replay with real players, but in my current solo league (which is in it's 10th or 11th year) I've got an outfielder named Jason Jackson (Joe's great, great, great grandson?) who is averaging 200 hits a year through 5 seasons. The remarkable thing about Jackson isn't his power (he hits about 30 doubles and 10 homers a season) but his OBP. He's walking 80-100 times a year and has posted a .500 OBP for the season on more than one occasion. I'll post his stats when I get home.

I have had Jackson do some great things in my leagues, but he usually takes a season or two to warm up. I'll have to see how he does in my Uniform history league when I get there. Maybe he will turn into a power hitter

I've seen similar things with Joe, but remember, you're using a 162 game season, as opposed to 154 (along with a couple 140 game seasons). Many of his totals will be magnified by +10%

His power numbers will be 10% higher, but the extra games makes his batting average even more remarkable.

Noteworthy, though, is that his two highest batting averages came in the two seasons he played the least games.

I don't argue whether he's putting up great numbers; he is. I'd like to see where he stands amongst the league leaders each season, though. Get a feel for the league in general.
