Using a prospect SP as a MR?
I have two fairly good prospect SP (4.5 stars) who are close to ready for the show (4 for runs, 5 for hits), but aren't ready for my rotation yet. I was thinking about letting them season in my bullpen, which has two openings right now. Will they develop as MR? Is there a danger that their endurance will decrease? Or should I just drop them into AAA and leave them there for another season? Ages are 25 and 26.

I would probably leave them in AAA for another season. Keep there salaries down, and don't risk anything.

I don't know, at that age I'd probably bring them up even if they don't pitch all that much so that they can develop a little more. If you leave them down in the minors they might risk taking a talent hit because of their age. That's what I would do but if that's not the best thing to do I'm sure someone will point it out shortly.

Yeah, 26 is kind of old to still be in AAA. When players turn 26, they turn to gold stars which (to me) means they need to be in the majors. I have let guys sit in the minors too long even if they're not ready and their ratings and talent take big hits.
From my experience, when a player has gold stars, he needs to make the rest of his growth in the majors. |

I concur, minor league development seems to stagnate at 25.

That's what I want to do, but I'm wondering if they'll develop a few more ticks in their ratings as MR's, mopup men and spot starters, or if I need to bite the bullet and let them start in the rotation. Their talent ratings are all goods and brilliants, but 4's and 5's won't exactly shut down the opposition. I'd hate to lose every 4th or 5th game for half a season while I'm waiting for their numbers to go up.

If you keep them listed primarily as an SP, then I don't believe you will see the hit's you are concerned about (sorry I didn't address it right the first time). However, if you make their primary positions as an MR, then it is possible as their focus would change.

Trade 'em. If they can't crack your rotation at 25 or 26, they're worth a lot more as trade bait. I'm sure there are bad teams in your league who would be willing to pay through the nose for them. Just make sure you pick up an established veteran and a couple young prospects.
