Problem with non-pitchers Pitching

Okay, I'll try to describe the problem our league is having in as much detail as possible, and hopefully someone can help us out.

We transferred our league from High Heat over to OOTP5 this past summer. I did that by creating a modified Lahman database with the veterans in our league and importing it. But we only imported some of the players for reasons that aren't important in this forum. I then filled the rest of the league with fictional players and used CommishJoe's "exporter" program to change the names, positions, ratings, etc. of the other players in the league.

But along the way, we discovered a problem: even when a fictional pitcher was changed to an OF, for example, he retained his pitch ratings. So, we went through and manually zeroed out all of the pitch ratings for hundreds of players throughout the league and removed their range rating at P. We thought we were in good shape. But we still had a problem: the players who were originally fictional pitchers still show up as SP, MR, or CL on the team roster and pitching staff screens, and occasionally get put in to pitch (this may only happen in the minors, but that's not certain).

So, I am hoping that someone (Steve? Markus?) is able to tell us how to remove the "hidden" pitcher rating from players.

I've always wondered that myself. I've had that problem with a few players, and I use the in-game OOTP editor.

Exactly what I would suggest.

Thank you for the suggestion. I played around with the in-game editor for a while last night and although I can't fix the problem we are having with it, it did give me an idea for how to do it. I will report back later tonight hopefully on how it goes.

FYI, the reason the in-game editor can't help me is that apparently once the game thinks that a player is a pitcher it assigns the player as either a SP, MR, or CL. Even when you change that player back to a 3b, for example, there appears to be no way to remove the SP, MR, or CL designation. And if a player has that designation, he will show up on roster reports as a pitcher and sometimes be put into the game to pitch (or even start, as we have seen with some minor leaguers).

This is a problem that does not have a fix that I am aware of. Babe Ruth was imported into our league when we first began. Of course, he came in as a pitcher. We edited all of the relevant ratings to make him an OF and changed his position in every place that we could. However, Ruth is still listed on the pitching staff on the team HTML reports. In addition, on rare occasions when other pitchers are injured, the game will pull him in to pitch an inning or two.

Let me tell you what I found. Hopefully someone can give me some direction on how to completely fix the problem.

I went in to the in game editor, as suggested. For a player who does not have this problem, when you cycle through their position to pitcher, the option for "Pitcher's Role" is empty. But for a player who does have this problem, it is either Starter, Middle Reliver, or Closer. And here is the problem: there does not seem to be a way to make that entry empty once it has a value in it. Cycling through only lets you choose among the 3 options (SP, MR, CL) with no apparent way to make the entry blank.

So I decided to try a different approach and went to the League Setup --> Advanced Setup, and exported the Player General Info to a CSV file. I then went into the file and found what I thought to be the appropriate column (PitchersRole), where players have either a SP, MR, CL, or a blank entry (for non-pitchers, other than the ones who are screwed up). I tried deleting the entry for one of the non-pitchers with this problem, saved the file, and imported the Player General Info file back into OOTP5. However, it did not work. The non-pitcher still was listed as a SP on the pitching staff screen.

To test that I was fiddling with the correct column I repeated the process but changed a non-pitcher from a SP to a CL and imported. This worked fine, so it appears that I am able to change the pitching role for a player, but not remove the pitching role for a non-pitcher, which is what is necessary to solve my problem.

Does anyone (Steve? Markus?) have any idea if there is a way to remove the entry for pitching role completely?
