1996 Historical League Openings

ABL Reloaded is a 1996 Historical League which has just concluded it’s first season and is about to enter the Off-Season. I think the biggest drawing point of the league is watching today’s players develop in the minor leaguers. This should also aid the leagues longevity since in two or three calendar years from now when we reach the present we will still be able to recruit new gm’s since will be playing with mostly current players, not that I expect many openings. We have live sim’s on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday which cover seven days. Our drafts are midseason and very deep since the top twenty-forty (depending on how good of a year it was) amateurs who were drafted that year are added to the lot of computer generated players. Ownership of the game is preferred but not required. I realize that is taboo to many but I have friends from the Baseball Mogul days of the ABL who use macs. When we used Mogul, we ignored the mogul financial system and used player agents and pencil and paper to keep track. We of course use the OOTP financial system. Keeping track of that along with 28 posted lineups meant that sims often took two hours to put together. So taking ½ an hour or so to input rosters doesn’t bother me. Around six GM’s who at first entered the league without owning the game have bought it.

Reds

The Reds went 89-73 and captured the NL WildCard but lost to the eventual World Champion Marlins in the Playoffs. Robby Alomar and Barry Larkin make up one of the best double play tandems of all-time while Mark Portugal and David Wells are a potent one-two punch. The biggest strength of the Reds is their stellar bullpen led by Jeff Brantley who saved 44 of 47 chances with a 1.37 ERA. No member of the bullpen had an ERA higher 3.84. Jeff Shaw had the high ERA but has a 4.5 rating and pitched 93 innings.

Tigers

The Tigers might have gone 56-106 but they have the makings of an excellant offensive ball club. Young Stars Tony Clark, Phil Nevin, and Bobby Higginson all hit at least 37 homeruns. The Tigers System is ranked sixth best largely due to young stars Cylde Keim (14th) and Gabe Kapler (16th) Like everyone

WhiteSox

The Whitesox are good but might be stuck in the 85 win range unless the right GM comes along . Robin Venutra hit .286/31 HR/104, Harold Baines .312/26/102, Dave Martinez hit .313, and Frank Thomas was a monster hitting .349 28 HR 92 RBI despite missing five weeks.

Rangers

The Rangers aren't bad but have a weak minor league team and poor pitching. A new GM would have to deal with resigning Juan Gone and I-Rod. Steve Avery is pretty good and the Rangers have a couuple good RPers.

Why don't you just have the rookie draft in the off season so you can import all of the real rookies each season? Otherwise your league seems pretty good.

Because, I want it in the middle of the season. Besides, I enter based on year drafted. I think, but am not sure, that the auto feature uses something other than that (perhaps debut year?)

Good move remangiii. I'm also in a league (Shiba) that drafts rookies as teenagers, to give them time to develop in the minors. Great way to go.

Depends on which database you use as to when they will debut. Lahman's Database debuts them at the earliest and Anti's debuts them later. Lahmans will get them in the league very early, most guys will be 19-21 when they appear for drafting unless they were one hit wonders and only appeared later in their careers. Of course you can't do the draft during the middle of the season using the databases.

The Reds are open once again but the Twins have joined them. I think both teams have some chance of making the postseason and the Twins are a team I like. However, they seem to be mostly disliked by the rest so a new twins owner gets 1M cash, in OOTP money.

We sim live on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays---Seven Days each.

Can't wait to hear from you guys. I’d appreciate an e-mail with the URLs of a couple leagues your currently in but beginners are welcome, feel free to instant message as well.

We do now require that new GM's have ownership of the game.
