Post Sub 500 Division winner

I just finished a season. Much to my surprise, the Angels won the AL West with a ridiculous won/loss record of 76-86. Here's the top two in each division

AL Standings

Eastern Division W L PCT GB
New York (A) 108 54 .667 --
Boston 104 58 .642 4

Central Division
Detroit 100 62 .617 --
Cleveland 94 68 .580 6

Western Division
Anaheim 76 86 .469 -- Oakland 75 87 .463 1

If I was Cleveland, I'd be hopping mad about this! Fortunately for me, I didn't have to worry about it, since I used KC! And they had the same record as Oakland!

I was just wondering if anybody else had seen a sub 500 division winner in any of their leagues?

Rob

Yep I have seen it a couple of times and each time its been the AL West. I also remember this was a big thing talked about leading up to the strike of 94' since the Rangers were 10 games under .500.

The strange thing for me I have also seen every team in the AL west finish above 500 before, to my knowledge thats something that has never happened.

Other than 1994 Texas Rangers, there has never been a division "winner" that was sub-.500 in the real major leagues.

I have seen this in one of my leagues..

[code]

South Division Standings :
(Name W L PCT GB AVG ERA)

Providence 52 32 .619 -- .271 3.49
Hartford 47 37 .560 5 .254 3.54
Springfield 42 42 .500 10 .266 4.25
New Haven 40 44 .476 12 .258 4.41

North Division Standings :
(Name W L PCT GB AVG ERA)

Boston 41 43 .488 -- .280 4.81
Portland 40 44 .476 1 .249 4.52
Manchester 38 46 .452 3 .255 4.37
Burlington 36 48 .429 5 .257 4.45

Playoffs :

New England Championship :

Boston (4) against Providence (0)

Notice Boston won the New England Championship that year in a sweep!

Typically I've seen in this league that the competition in the North Division is tough, most teams always being right in the race, while the North Division winners typically have a better record they have only won one title in 7 seasons.
