Post Epic Battle-NIce Feature

I had the colossal epic battle between Jeff Zimmerman and Nomar Garciaparra. Top of 9th, 2 men on in a 3-2 game and an 0-2 count on Nomar. He proceeds to foul of 7 straight balls including one that said "if it's fair, it's gone!". He then works the count to 3-2 and then proceeds to foul off 4 more balls.

Finally on the 17th pitch of the AB, he looks at one that was right down the pipe for the last out of the game!

Needless to say, the addition of the foul ball has generated the effect desired!

I agree. I'm amazed at how much foul balls add to the immersion of the game.

Probably one of the top new features for me.

YES!!! -pump fist-

This is exactly what I hoped could happen with the addition of foul balls. Drama all over the place.

Sadly I disagree. I love the game but don't like this feature. I like the one pitch at bats, and feel the multiple foul balls really slows down the game. Again...just my feeling on the issue. I'd like to be able to disable this one.

I don't mind an extra click for realism.

The pitchers don't go as far into the game because of it. I think that's much better.

Just my opinion. We're all entitled to one.

for me, this is huge. Hopefully fewer D and E endurance SP will be finishing games.

Edit- a possible option could be to toggle whether foul balls get their own pbp. Might be hard to do though.

Another vote for the foul balls. The only complaint I had with OOTP3 was the PbP, which was not up to the level of some other text games. As I play almost every game and don't sim, this is more important to me than it may be to others.

Anyway, the foul balls in OOTP4 are an excellent addition. I think it was what I was missing from OOTP3. I also think I can live without a pitch-by-pitch version for while too.

I think the foul balls are great. I remember when I first got OOTP3, I was wondering why there weren't any foul balls. OOTP4 fixed and that then some! What a great game... oh and I was playing it all day yesterday, until 5 am. I just woke up and I'm going to play some more.

Hi Markus,

I mentionned this in another thread as well, but this is a better place...

Foul balls are probably the best addition to the game in terms of making them more exciting. Very well implemented and I have also had my share of exciting matchups .

Now... (humble suggestion coming up) imagine the same thing but between runners on first base and pitchers trying to pick them off. I think this would add tons to the game.

Love the foul ball aspect! Haven't got to the off season, but in game that is the best addition. No longer are we limited to 6 pitch at bats.
One item that could be worked on next version... for example... 3-1 count. When the description is along the lines of "Did he hold up"... it is always yes and a walk since the play is a result. Same vice versa on an 0-2 count, always a strike out. I am only 10 games in so maybe I have missed something.
Overall great game Markus. Thank you!

It is a great feature that adds some good suspense. Larry Walker just fouled off about 6 in a row, I was freaking out

Ya know....I hate foul balls for one reason. In a crucial situation, they hit some pop fouls that just magically seem to fall in the first few rows, then they get a key hit to start a rally.

Otherwise, nice addition.

Well, i've noticed that if someone fouls off the 3rd strike, they never walk. I'm talking from a very small sample set here, like 5 games, but I haven't seen it happen yet. I've seen hits and strikeouts and groundouts, etc, but no walks.

I'm seeing this as well, it's either a strikeout or a hit/out. Don't think I've seen a walk yet, but I will pay more attention to it.

I just had a walk after a foul ball three times in the first three innings of one game. This is post patch, btw. Just so you know...

I to am very please with the addition of foul balls. I have one player on my roster who seems to always get in those long at bats where he fouls of 3-5 pitches. Great addition to the OOTP series.
