Post Anyone have this problem?

I started a historical league in OOTP3 starting in 1903. I have currently simmed up till 1912. Last night I tried to import the league into v4 and everything seemed fine until after the import all the player names were symbols instead of letters. of course the game crashed after this. Anyone know of a reason for this?

It is possible that you did not type in the full path AND old league name exactly correct - that happened to me once anyway. No error is given if the path is correct but the old league file name is not. I'd suggest trying to import the league again and remember to include the "leaguename.lg" at the end of the full import path. Let us know if that fixes it as the next thing I'd check would be OOTP3.

Yes the path is typed correctly. Everythig imports ok but it crashes when the import is done. when I start the game I can go in an open up the league fine. just all the player names are symbols and the financials are screwed.

Now I have imported other leagues and havent had a problem.

Maybe this is a database problem since it's a historical league, but my guess is it's reading the player.dat wrong.

This exact thing happened to me just now when I tried to import my OOTP 3 Sim League into OOTP 4. I had the path correct and all, and it ended up being symbols and blanks. If anyone figures this out, please drop me a line at MxPxFenixTx@aol.com or reply to this. Thanks!

If this is related to an issue in the Lahman DB then I hope the historical simmers can provide some opinions here, I seem to recall some talk about 1 or 2 Lahman seasons having issues. If that is not the issue then I'd just suggest maybe simming the game to a different point in the season using OOTP3 and making sure the league is running solidly there. Then close OOTP3 and try to import the historical season again with OOTP4. I have yet to see any strangeness on v3 imports besides the the incomplete path issue so doing some testing using OOTP3 might help here.

Dxgarnett - Is your problem also with a 1903 historical league (or any historical league)? It sounds like wulfman75 is only having issues with importing that league so it's possible you have a different, though maybe related, problem. Let us know your particulars if it is not the same problem.

I had a similar problem, but I think it was related to a corruption of the players.dat file from long, long ago. I got my fictional league going in OOTP2 by adding all of my players to the Lahman database and importing them. Somewhere along the way there was an error, and my player.dat file ballooned up to 90 Meg. Because of the difficulty of entering all of this fictional data I never tried to re-import, or otherwise fix it. But odd things would happen, like OOTP2 wouldn't "proceed to next season" with this league. But for some reason OOTP3 would, at least once. But not after the first full season I ran on OOTP3.

So now, I try importing the league to OOTP4 and all the players names are little boxes and the stats and ratings are screwed up.

What I finally did was make a new league, and used Pierre's editor on the OOTP3 files and imported all the teams from the broken league to the new league. Then I did the OOTP4 import with the new league and everything worked. I have to reenter the league records, and the history is gone, but at least the files work, and are the correct size.
