Post Anybody ever wanted this???

I just thought about something that would be nice to have in OOTP5. I wish there were stats for a specific player against a specific pitcher. For example,

Bonds vs Randy Johnson. This would be neat for matchups. Also, mention the home/away stats in the pbp.

No. I never wanted that. Nor will I.

Roberto Alomar steps up to the plate.
At home, he's hitting .289 with 2 HR's and 14 RBI's.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

HAHA Imagine this PBP...you'd never finish the inning...

And up comes Carlos Pena. He is batting .345 against Helling with 34 hits, 3 HRs, 11 RBI, and one stolen base. Last time he faced Helling.....blah blah blah

LOL

Speaking of GWRBI...

I can see why the significance of this stat is a little foggy, but why was it essentially dismissed as a worthless stat? What were the reasons it became so discredited? I wasn't really into stats when GWRBI was en vogue, so I'm curious what the main arguments for/against it are/were.

As far as I know only one other baseball game supplies this and it's an add-on. Check this link & then click Batter/Matchups.

I believe the main argument against it was that It went to the person who drove in the "winning run regardless" of the score.

I.E. That meaningless single to score a run to make it 6-0, could somehow become the game winning RBI if the final score was 15-5.

If I remember correctly GWRBIs were supposed to help measure just how "clutch" someone was and when the majority of the league leaders GWRBI's were in blow outs or 3 or 4 run games... just how clutch is that?

At least these were my arguments for never paying attention to it.

how about "career numbers vs. team" for an individual player?

In nearly every ballgame on tv or in media guides, you'll find these stats. is it somewhere to be found? if not, I would like to see it.

The reason the GWRBI was discredited was that it went to the player who gave his team the lead for the last time. So, if a guy lead off the first with a home run, and his team never lost the lead, he got the GWRBI, even if it ended up 12-6. GWRBI was developed to show how "clutch" a guy was, but the majority of GWRBI came before the 7th inning. Therefore the stat was not really indicative of what it implied, i.e. that this guy had the big hit that won the game. If the stat were reconstituted- similar to a save- such as GWRBI which gives your team the lead in the 8th inning or later- it would be a much better indicator of a player's "clutch" ability.
