Baseball Commonality Trivia
Due to popular demand (i.e. one person asked) I am posting some of my Legendary famous, all original, Baseball Commonality Trivia.
As in the past, the question is made up of two parts... First: decipher the identity of the three players given the clues. Second: deduce the uncommon commonality those three players share. Teamwork is encouraged! If you only know what or two players, list your answer in hops that someone else guesses the remaining. Of course, in the past, other people have jumped in with their own challenging questions as well. Feel free to share yours!

1) I was a New York native and I originally signed with my hometown club. Before I turned 25 I had drove in at least 150 RBI in one year, batted over .325 twice, and had hit over 25 homers in a season. However, although I had a long career covering parts of three decades, I never surpassed those numbers again and in fact never drove in 100 or more again. I never won an MVP but finished in the top 10 in each league. I was once traded from the AL to the NL for a player who would go on to be a World Series hero for his new team. Who am I?
2) I was drafted by a California team but only played one season in the majors with that club. I was primarily known as a member of a successful AL club that made the postseason three years in a row during my stay there. I was a swing man, sometimes in the rotation, sometimes working out of the pen behind our talented staff. In fact, I had the distinction of winning Pitcher of the Month honors twice in one season – once as a starter, once as a reliever! I won in double figures six times in my career with a high of 17. I once had a no-hitter broken up in the 9th by a future Hall of Fame outfielder. Who am I? 3) I played 13 seasons and was a 2-time All Star. I hit a home run in my first World Series at bat but it ended up being one of only 3 hits I got in the entire series while my club lost in 7 games. I did end up on a World Series winner but not until my final season in the big leagues. My team getting to that Series was not due to me since I barely was able to bat my listed weight (213 pounds) that year. I was able to redeem myself in that Series with a key hit in Game Four. I had some real power and one of my home runs was part of a record. I was once traded for a pitcher who went on to set a World Series record. Who am I?

Figured I'd cash in the easy one while I had the chance, plus I didn't want to be a big showoff like Specs.

I kind of got Pattin by mistake, clicking through the staffs of the Orioles and A's of the early 70's and then the lucky Royals. I noticed his BBREF line that said he was on the Pilots, I checked out Davis, and there weren't too many two time all stars on that roster...

Sorry I don't get it! Color me misconfused! As far as players from those eras in question, I stick to what I know more often than not (and 70's baseball is my favorite all-time baseball era) but I will be sure to delve back into the depths of baseball history when I can!

I wanna do one too, while LL naps..........
1) I was known as "Little D" and I played for Houston, Milwaukee, Oakland, Anaheim and the Dodgers twice. I have 6 Dodgers records. 2) Though most people know me by my nickname, my first name was Harold. Some people think my nickname is for obveous reasons, but it is actually because I was a marbles champion in my native Louisville, KY. I was also a a 10-time N.L. All-Star. 3) I am an eight-time National League All-Star and three-time league MVP. Before the major leagues I played a decade in the old Negro Leagues. My career was cut short when I was paralyzed in an automobile accident in New York. Sorry if it is too easy! Last edited by Karen Lutz; 01-08-2004 at 02:24 AM. |
