Best Offensive Players Ever In This Game?

I was just checking out my league's other players and there was someone I kept noticing and I checked out his stats. He's one of the best player's I've seen in this game, his stats are amazing. His salary is over 19Million! He's unbelieveable, check out these career stats below. Have you ever seen anyone like this?

He played in coors helps a lot....though 1997 is very impresive still.

Is it sad that my second reaction to those stats (after scanning the OPS column) was "Damn, his 'stealing' slider needs to be turned way down"?

And yes, even for Coors, 1997 is a legendary season. Though I would wonder why you haven't noticed this guy before now. You'd think a .409/60 year would garner a little attention.

I'll take this man anyday, and he did this in a very bad hitter's park

batted .400 3 times
Had an OPS over .950 6 times

Just a question about unbelievable seasons. I've noticed that ootp doesn't take league average ratings into account in the minors, as my league uses extremely high ratings compared to most, and some of the guys in the minors who will never see a big league game hit around .400 regularily, and ont guy once hit almost .500. Anyone ever try playing a guy with 10 ratings across the board in A-ball for an entire season and see if he could bat .600 with an OPS over 1.500 lol?

Darrin "The" Gross

OK, have to chime in on this one.

This is a modern era league and the player in question plays in the Vet, which is a pretty neutral park. The Vet since has been renamed Gross Field.

Year G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI R BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS Teams
2001 162 619 215 25 3 50 136 152 129 123 41 5 .347 .460 .640 1.100 LOU,FL
2002 162 623 249 29 4 44 135 143 125 134 34 6 .400 .500 .671 1.171 LOU,FL
2003 162 616 227 35 1 37 113 139 104 103 41 7 .369 .460 .609 1.068 LOU,FL
2004 160 568 227 22 2 36 114 165 142 116 62 10 .400 .520 .636 1.155 LOU,FL
2005 154 579 219 28 6 52 143 151 109 104 33 13 .378 .477 .717 1.193 LOU,FL
2006 153 573 215 25 6 28 121 135 106 120 59 6 .375 .471 .586 1.057 LOU,FL
Total 953 3578 1352 164 22 247 762 885 715 700 270 47 .378 .481 .643 1.125

Couple things to note: His lifetime average is better than any other players best season. He won the triple crown in 2006 and has led his team to 5 straight division titles and 6 straight MVPs. I think what separates him is his SB and SB%!

He can be found playing in his prime in the ATHL

Nope think earlier BaseballMan, one of the best players that NEVER get recognition, and is often passed over by two well known contempories

Yes, BBman

close Dwoofer...I can't give any hints or it would be too easy, but his decline came at Jackson's beginning

Nap Lajoie people!!!

One of the greatest ever to grace the game, but for some reason gets overshadowed by Honus Wagner

Nap Lajoie has been one of my favorite players ever since I had him on my Earl Weaver team. I even have a picture of myself, at age 14 or so, standing next to his plaque at the HOF.

The thing about comparing offensive seasons is that so much is dependent upon the league totals settings. It's really not useful to compare, because if you set the league settings right, you could have a .500 league average and the average player could hit 70 homers.

Well with Nap here, totals were more or less 5% within realistic averages

He is th eonly man to sniff .400...and he did so 4 times
plus he was top 3 in HRs for most of his career, AND he hit 60 + doubles Speaker has gotten close at 54....and that's it

Bad Vlad. The league started in 2001. He's always played in slightly pitchers' parks. Three of those years were triple crowns, and one of them quadruple (runs). He's also won 6 MVPs in the 8 years of the league, and would have won in 2001, but switched leagues mid-season.
