I started with 10 eye, which means my initial talent was 100.

I got a talent increase for Eye by reading a book when maxed. Keep trying.

Your ratings add up to 360, though. How did you get so much talent??

Working out. It's unusual to have it increase that much, but somehow it happened. I'm 38 now and 100 contact, 100 eye, 90 power, 100 gap, altho my defense and speed are slipping.

I had a guy start with 80 contact, 10 power, 20 gap, and 80 eye. He is 29 right now and has recived numerous increases, so he is at 100 contact, 50 power, 50 gap, and 80 eye. He is a career 300+ hitter and steals 90+ bases every year.

fluharty,

What was your initial RPG stats? I'm guessing that the reason that you gained so much talent was a high intelligence score?

Jason Moyer,

You said that you got your high talent through working out... what does you workout schedule look like?

Thanks for the replies,

I had an OF who started with 7 in contact, 1 in power, 8 in eye, 6 in Gap who ended up with 90/30/90/70 and had a career OBP in the .440 range and an OPS of close to .900. Not a HoFer, but an All-star certainly. The increases all came from working out. I use a balanced workout schedule with 4-5 BP session, 3 fielding sessions, and then working through and flexing each of the 4 areas on a rotational basis.

A .440 OBP should get you into the Hall of Fame easily.

My problem with such a character is getting 'decent' salary. I set up my character with good contact and gap ratings but low power but in my prime at age 28 and with a .320 lifetime avg and high of .345, consistently among the top ten in avg, runs, doubles and triples, steals (I also developed that), obp, runs created, etc., I can't command more than $5.2 million. Of course this is my first career, so maybe that is good. But it seems I'll never get the really big bucks. Maybe that is for the power hitters.

Depends on how old I am. The older you get, and the lower your constitution, the slower your fatigue recovers, so you need to keep an eye on that and adjust your workout accordingly. If your player is constantly tired he's not going to perform well.

Early on I schedule 4 days of strength/flexibility in the mornings. 1 day each of the most exhausting lower body, leg, upper body, and arm exercises with the corresponding flexibility exercises. Then I'll tweak them slightly to get the balance of strength/flexibility right. In the afternoons (again, early on) I usually do BP plus every day and then alternate fast running and defensive drills plus.

Personality: Pragmatist

I just turned 30 and its opening day. My talents are 100 60 60 80. My power has gone from 10 to 60 and my gap from 20 to 60. Thats a lot. All but 10 points of the power increase has happened since I turned 28 (the last two seasons). Note the sudden spike in home runs. This is not really realistic, but I dont mind it. I may just have gotten really, really, really lucky.

^^^

That workout program ROCKS. I've had a contact rating and 2 gap rating increases in the last season.

Well, it's not that unrealistic... I can pick out at least one player who had something similar...

1988: 152 games, 580 AB, 8 HR
1989: 156 games, 559 AB, 8 HR
1990: 154 games, 598 AB, 14 HR
1991: 159 games, 631 AB, 26 HR

Current HR total after 2003 season: 528.

It's our good friend Raffy Palmeiro.

Of course, that's one of the fun things with baseball -- you can find a player to support anything.

We're ignoring the most disgusting thing about Jason's character

Apparently he began his career with a severe nosepicking habit.

Injured on 5/12/1901 with a Jammed Finger, out for one week...
Injured on 7/10/1901 with a Fractured Nose, out for 5 days...
