YOu are working out too much. Move away from 40 fitness level to like 55 or 60.

Hmmm is your eye low? Or just bad luck?

What bat are you using?

Does your fitness bar bottom out?

I feel your pain.

My contact is also 70, and my career best is .285. My career average is .265. (8 seasons)

My fitness has been in the 69-75 range my entire career. My bar never bottoms out.

I went all out this year and got a total of +14 contact, and I am batting a career low .234.

All I can say is WTF!

My player has a 70 contact; 60 eye; 40 power & gap. I've had a bunch of pretty good bats and gloves but my lifetime average after 11 years in the bigs is .250. My best year was .291...
I've yet to improve over my max ratings and have read every book I can. I've tried different workouts to no avail. Now at 34 it looks as if aging is setting in. The only thing I've done well is play defense.
This one was probably snake bit from the beginning so I'll see what happens after he is reincarnated.

A 70 contact is not a .300 hitter.

My batter has an 80 for contact, with a bat that adds another 13....this total of 93 gives me a lifetime average of .307

I DID win a batting title (at .348), and fluctuate between .299 (twice), and .348

My big concern is how the hell to increase my ratings.

My strength/flexibility number is right on the money, at 1.4

I don't do strength training, as my power value is a whole 3.

I have NEVER had ANY value raise for me. I am now 31, a catcher, and it doesn't look good for potential raises.

Funny thing is with my bat and gloves I was getting +20 to my contact for two years. Didn't seem to do anything to help my average although my home runs and strikeouts went up a bit. Go figure.

Stats fluctuate. Players have good months, bad months, good years, bad years.

The best way to see how well your equipment is would be to run the same simulated season 100 times or so without the equipment; then run the same simulated season 100 times with the equipment. Compare the average stats for your player. Otherwise, there's no way to tell if it's the bat, if it's the drinking, if it's the opposing pitchers...

Having a contact of 70 does not mean that your player will hit .300...

The Gap and eye must be high as well...I mean, you must have a good eye to be able to make contact...

My LF used a variation of Kai's workout; max power increased 10 and max gap increased 20 at about age 35.

So do you improce more from workout or playing? Especially important for a catcher or SS or similar. If your workout is too strenuous your on field performance seems to suffer. I haven't tried to lighten the workout yet. I'm always w/in +- .05 of the suggested.

On my current dude, I kept the workout ALWAYS within .1 of the recommendation.

I had NO increases, until I hit 32. Between 32 and 35 I increased contact 10, power 20 and gap 30. At 37, sadly, I started the year already down a couple points C, P and G. BOOK TIME!

Also, my energy never went below 68 at any point in my career. And that was only when I was 35 and had a contact increase and I wanted to fill it out so I added a Bat practice. It was usually 70-72.

But to comment on the original post, I think Wolf has it right ( I think that's the second time I've said that in a week? anyway ...). I think EYE is important. I even think it says so when you make your character, it will help your average. I had 40 my entire career. When I was 34, I had 70 contact, +5 gloves and WOnderboy (+ 16 contact) and only hit .285. After my contact increase to 80, with W-Boy and +9 gloves, I hit .283. I can't help but think EYE would increase that. It just doesn't make sense otherwise...

Playing increases your "real" rating, working out increases the maximum.

Rookies start out with low "real" ratings, high school lower than college. Those increase with playing and max out around age 30. With a good regimen, your character's max will go up in power & gap. Playing time will get him up to the new max.
