We are now accepting applications for ownership in tMBU (the MoneyBall Union), a revolutionary new OOTP5 league with a "hook" - a REAL agent for the players! No more of the AI rejecting the exact amount it asked for! No more of the AI asking for three times as much for an extension as the player would get in arbitration! No more mysterious AI bugs in free agency!
Check out the website: tMBU League Website You Own the Team The league takes place 20 years from now, after Major League Baseball has been disbanded and re-formed as tMBU. The league consists of 24 teams from across North America, formed by new owners (i.e. no more Tom Hicks) and forged in whatever image the owner desires. This is your opportunity to create a team that has your own distinct "Flavor" - pick the location, name the team, name and locate the minor league teams, create the team by selecting players in the fantasy draft. Ideal Owners Because tMBU is a new idea, we are looking for "Cream of the Crop" owners who will commit the time necessary to make both their team and the league itself GREAT. This is a writing-intensive league with a number of fun angles (like the "Scout-a-Prospect" concept, with thanks to the FIBB), and as such we are seeking ONLY committed owners who will write at least one or two articles per week about either their team or the league as a whole, and will check the board at least every other day. Please bear this in mind when deciding whether or not to apply for a team. Applying That said, please read the Constitution first; it will give you an idea of how the league will operate. After that, please click the "Application" link to submit an application for franchise ownership. Timeline: We would like to begin play mid- to late-January, which means the Fantasy Draft must take place starting in early- to mid-January. This of course means that we must have all teams set up by that time, so we will accept applications until January 5th, at which time we hope to have all 24 teams ready for the Draft. Help We are looking for a web designer and/or a graphic designer to give us a hand with the league site and the team graphics. If you fit either of those descriptions, you will be given preference for one of the teams (so long as you will also be an active and enthusiastic team owner). Check out the website: tMBU League Website |

So how does the player agent work? Who does the negotiating?

First off, I am the Player Agent. I know the players, their strengths and weaknesses, etc. I will NOT own a team, so there won't be a conflict of interest there, and the co-commissioner will act as arbitrator if a dispute arises - which should not happen, since everyone who joins agrees to abide by the Player Agent's decisions. I am not out to get a power trip - I just got sick of the game's AI screwing people over and decided this was a cool way to avoid that annoyance.
I have created formulas that will allow me to calculate the following: - - A player's desire to re-sign with his old team, or to sign with any given new team; - - The approximate value of the player, relative to (a) what he's asking, and (b) other players like him; - - A player's likelihood to accept any given contract offer. These formulas will be universal for all players, and allow me to calculate these important factors in a fair and impartial manner. Additionally, please be aware that owners will be allowed to offer "perks" to players, each of which is worth something - but also costs something. So an owner may offer a free agent a limited no-trade clause in exchange for accepting less money. We've already gotten a number of applications, and it's only been up for 10 hours! Please consider applying if you are a dedicated owner looking for a cool new league with a fresh new idea!

Have you given any thought to having more than one "player agent"? The dynamics of having different agent types could make the whole concept more interesting. By having a sole arbiter for every player in the entire league, it really does not change the use of the in-game contract extension and free agent system much.

John,
I will be doing a "rolling admissions" basis. That means that I will be letting 8 people know tomorrow if they are in, so they can start working on their teams; then, another 8 in a few days; and another 8 in about a week. The draft will start mid-January, and play will begin at the end of January, hopefully. Thanks, Josh

I have received 3 new apps and will be reading/handling them when I return home from work this evening.
Thanks, Josh PS - If all 3 are accepted (and I have no reason to believe they will not be), we will have only 3 spots left in the league. Please apply now to grab one of those spots! |
