Maybe people aren't always going to use it to create super characters. Brett has said he wants to make it so you can edit a character already in a league. Maybe I want to use it to make things more realistic.
I am a Catcher with an intelligence of 2. Now I made my major league debut at Age 23. When I'm 33 and I've been in the majors for 10 full seasons, my intelligence SHOULD have gone up. There's no way a Catcher can be one of the most successful in the league (as I am) and not become smarter. Anyone who makes it in the major leagues for 10 years will be undoubtedly be smarter then the day they got in, especially a Catcher who is most likely the best overall Catcher in the league. So maybe I want to edit my intelligence up to a 3, or 4, like it should be. Maybe when I first entered the big-leagues, I was an arrogant S.O.B. Now that I've learned a lot about the game of professional baseball, I've changed my tune and now can become the leader of a team, so I change my personality class. It's not always cheating, sometimes it's just tweaking things to make them more realistic in your point of view. Yes, some people will use this to make super character, just to get some kick out of it. We've all probably sat here thinking what it would be like to crush 85 Home Runs in a single season, or Strike out 400 batters, or hit .450 and just set such a new barrier you're always talked about. When people mention baseball, you are mentioned in the same breath. You can't hit 85 HRs with 100 power in ITP, so making a super character allows you too. So what? They paid for it, let them do it. I may for a while, why should I be discouraged for it? You want to dictate and flame me for how I use my game? Pay for it. But if I'm going to pay $20 for it, I'm going to use it to my liking. Because regardless, if someone uses it to create a super character and that's all they use it for, they're going to get bored rather quickly. A month, maybe two. Most people may use it for a career or two, some may not use it all. But I didn't pay for their game, so I'm not going to flame them one way or the other. It's their choice. |

You don't approve of abortion? Fine, don't have one.
You don't approve of drinking? Great, don't drink. You don't approve of using editors in single-player games? No problem, don't use one.

I edited out my nice, long rant.
Have fun with the game, and your little trainer. The game will rapidly lose its appeal for you, after you have conquered the known universe with it. Sad, really. Last edited by dsvitak; 12-31-2003 at 12:33 AM. |

Well, I'm glad to be part of your ***ed up world
![]() BTW, you saying that just further justifies everyone else's ![]() P.S. I never once stated I was better then anyone who doesn't "cheat", I just stated if I wish to use it's my own problem and not yours, and therefore you shouldn't worry about it (and yes, you are worrying about us cheating, that's why you continue to post). Well since you edited to say you weren't going to argue your point (in which you had argued your point, why argue and then edit saying I'm not going to), I'll edit and say my post was based off your other one that noted "You mean to tell me all you wonderful people that cheat are better then non-cheaters" and "what kind of ***ed up world do we live in" blah blah blah. HmM...I think the editor can be used when someone wants to experiment or have alittle more fun with it like if someone wanted to create aSUPER character

Ah, it's the thread where you can not only download a character editor and money editor but also get involved in a insult-ridden 'discussion' of the ethics of modifying your character in a single player game.
Glad to see it revived. At any rate, let the 'discussion' continue. Brett |

I Am the Game has a great point.
Players *do* change over the course of their career. And though the aging part of that seems to already be built in, the character part of it does not (I don't think). Personally, I'd leave my intelligence alone (I think intelligence begets smarts, therefore you'll eventually learn more in your time in the league, based on your intelligence). But man, I'm so about the character thing. There are guys like Barry Bonds and Cal Ripken, who don't really seem change their attitude or disposition as their career goes on, and then there are guys like Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, etc. who *seem* to learn, adapt and change their attitudes (as long as they aren't threatened - see Ryan vs. Ventura and Clemens vs. Piazza) and usually for the better. Great idea on how to better use the editor, IATG! Thanks! -E p.s. Anyone see any irony in the fact that dsvitak has used an editor to change his post a little farther up the thread here? Hmm...

There is this sad Puritan streak in America, and it manifests itself in outbreaks of public moral outrage about what other people choose to do - like, say, use editors - all too often.
I privately think being gay is a really bad and wrong choice, but my neighbor and one of my co-workers are gay, but that's their choice, and it's their lives and not mine. Sure, I privately think they're really wrong, but do I ever tell them that? Would I ever tell them that? Would I ever give them a Puritanical moral lecture? Of course not. I disagree with their choice (or, if it's somehow not a choice, then with actively practicing their tendencies) but it's not my business - or anyone else's - to tell someone else how to live their life or how to conduct their affairs as long as they are not harming others when they do so. If you get morally outraged by someone using an editor in a single-player game - where no one else can possibly be harmed by them doing so - then please just keep it to yourself.

Welcome back, SG. Where you been? Though, I see where dvatsik is coming from, he probably could use a valium and realize his rant would be welcome in a situation where there was competition online, or in a league. A single-player game cheat or trainer is fine for some. I, personally won't use one for this game, but I would never fault someone else for using it. It's personal preference. Some people find MORE enjoyment and pleasure in their own personal, private way. So ultimately, life resembles masturbation. |

The truth is that people flame other people, call them names, treat them like absolute crap -- because they can. There are no repercussions for flaming on an internet board. You can't get hit. You can't get a drink thrown in your face. You can't be publicly humiliated. It's a very safe place to be really, really mean. Ever go into a chat room or an IRC forum? 90% of the people who join these things start off by saying, "Who here's a girl and wants to ****?" It's the same idiot mentality. (I'm not suggesting that everyone has this idiot mentality at all. I'm suggesting that the motivation to be cruel is a similar one as to be misogynistic.) Too much pent up rage, and nowhere to put it... That, to me, is sadder than the "puritan streak in America" or the people who criticize cheaters. /bc |

It reminds me of the NFL's latest crusade against celebration, with announcers never inquiring as to whether fans enjoy seeing players act silly after a touchdown. I'm not saying whether I'm for or against them, but no way in Hell should the NFL tell the viewers what's "for their own good." Maybe the viewers don't see NFL stadiums as churches the way the announcers do, and they like a multi-faceted form of entertainment. Nevertheless, the media and the league try to hammer home the concept that the NFL field is a sacred ground where humor and individuality are barred, and do not even offer the viewers a potential dissenting opinion.
