If female characters are allowed, with the way the game is designed now, my character would take Markus, the team owner, the manager, and half the team home.

And while we're at it, we need a good World War II game in which female American soldiers can storm the beach at Normandy or Iwo Jima. I can't believe how discriminatory the makers of WWII games are in not realizing this... Discriminatory???? LOL.

If you want to play as a woman, is anyone really stopping you?
Here's my advice: use a woman's name when you create your player, change the player's picture to a female. Halfway there! Next modify the file ...ITP/wnames.dat to contain male names instead of female names, and bam, you're playing as a woman and picking up males in the bar. As to some of the pronouns being wrong, well, in general, the grammer and spelling is bad enough that you should be able to overlook a few misplaced pronouns. Brett |

well... if female players are ever added, I hope it is an option that can be turned on/off. I don't want my baseball universe to include women, not because I am discriminatory or any such thing. I just would prefer my leagues have some semblance of reality (at least, my reality) and forcing me to include women would taint my league enough to make it unenjoyable. I'm all for having women's leagues, but not in my gaming experience.
Also, throwing the word discrinmatory around because Markus made a game resembling real life (in which there are currently no female major league players) is ignorant and bordering on slander (or would that be libel since it's written?). No offense fluharty, but your statement's in this thread have definitely lowered my opinion of you. Regardless, you are entitled to your opinion, I just hope your ideas are never incorporated into either ITP or OOTP.

FYI: Baseball Mogul has an option to have women introduced into the league in the later years, while a nice touch, it does not really change the game. Alot of you are saying it would detract from the realism of the game, but how can you justify that? Do you really think there won't be women in professional sports in 50 years? Maybe 100 years? Markus could add an option in which aliens play for your team and probably justify it using this logic.
Im indifferent on this issue, but I do have one question for everyone. In the later years of OOTP, my leagues seemed to have more Japaneese players in them. Is Markus destroying realism or discriminating Americans? Just something to think about |

When you bring up an issue of discrimination you are implying the delibrate attempt to keep a segment of society oppressed because of their gender or race or origin.
fluharty, I really have to wonder about your intent on making this post. If you're really this passionate about a computer game not having a female character then you really need to turn the computer off, stop the Dixie Chicks CD you're playing, go outside and meet human beings. You're entitled to your opinion. Just realize everyone else is entitled to criticize your opinion...and that's not "flaming" you. Just because we disagree doesn't mean we're attacking you. |

Glad to see a point double-re-over-emphasized anew repeatedly once more again.

Karen Lutz said it best. Id bet about 99% of the consumers of OOTP products are male. If females were buying the game, then Markus would put females in there. The Target audience for this game is probably males 15+ years old. So Markus will cater to the target audience. It's just the way business is done. If Markus was to put 70% of his developing time into putting women into the game instead of improving other aspects such as Winter Leagues, More interaction, Fan favorite, etc... Well that just wouldn't be smart
Anyways... Can't you just edit the name file (or something like that) and make it where Bobs and Joes do not come into the league, but names such as Kit and Dotty?

It's just that OOTP and ITP are so geeky, you don't have to worry about the normal age 15~25 male crowd.

Skipaway, I would buy that arguement if we were discussing a game with 3D graphics and not a text-sim. Just not enough silicon in these pixels to interest the particular crowd you're referring to. ;p
FWIW, wouldn't matter to me if women were an option. But, it's in no way discriminatory that they are not included. That's just silly. |

Doh, I thought this post would tell me how to find a woman. Well back to the russian brides websites.
![]() P.S. Woman in the game and 18 year olds in bars, if you think these are issues play a real RPG. Neverwinter Nights has bars, brothels, murder and mayhem and noone blinks an eye. |

ITP isn't quite realisitc as it is (e.g.: million-dollar books, magic equipment), neither is OOTP (e.g.: pitchers with 500+ strikeouts per season) or Mogul (e.g.: too many players demanding A-Rod salaries). OTOH, games that do have realism (e.g.: Diamond Mind) aren't as user-friendly. |

Wow. who would have known this was such a hot topic. What was the point of the dixie chicks reference? That they are women, or their choices regarding speech about certian world leaders?

![]() I think some simple text like "SUKME" would be enough to attract age 15~25 males.

I left this thread alone for a while after my post, I come back and find you guys debating over it? LOL
Female characters would be pointless, the time it would take to include it would take away from other needs the game has and even OOTP6 time, so I am against the idea. It is simply a perk we don't need (much like the buggy release players manually patch, but we wont get into that). As for your post Skipaway, lol, I will never understand why men pretent to be women, I know I would never want to pretend to be male. |

If you guys......and girls haven't figured it out Skipaway posts are just to post. They rarely have any accurate or useful information. He thinks his large post count can make up for his..... well small....well you get the point!

I do try hard to be accurate. And I'm sure my posts are all more useful than jmaness84's.
![]() Let's think again about what we do in this game: 1. setup the player 2. setup the training schedule 3. buy equipments 4. drink and try to get lucky 5. drink and try to get lucky 6. drink and try to get lucky 7. drink and try to get lucky 8. drink and try to get lucky 9. drink and try to get lucky 11. sim a game or two 12. drink and try to get lucky 13. drink and try to get lucky 14. drink and try to get lucky 15. drink and try to get lucky 16 retire Now tell me, do playable female characters appeal more to male players or female players? I'd believe the big fans would be those male players who had a hard time getting girls as male characters. They'd just want to try it from the other side.
