Talent level changes?
When I created may guy, I gave him the following
7 - Contact 6 - Power 6 - Eye 7 - Gap Throughout my entire development cycle, the maxes never changed, always 70, 60, 60, 70. Is it possible for these to fluctuate or do they always stay the same? If they never change, then I don't see how a person playing at the higher difficult levels will ever make it to the majors because they'll never be good enough. |

I agree. It seems like it may be too easy to reach the levels you set, and the maximums too set in stone. When you know that the levels you'll eventually reach are the ones you set from the start, it makes it a little less replayable.
Can someone enumerate what ways you can hope to ever change your maximums?

Yeah these have to change, if it doesn't then this game will actually end up being really really bad
Also I would think it should be based on your workouts and all for talent increases, and not random increases like ootp |

I agree with the fac that the max talent ratings need to change during the game. I started out on the normal level as a high school kid by the time I was 22 I was at my max level of 60 contact, 90 Power, 40 Eye, 40 gap. It woule be nice to see these levels go up as well as down during your career.
For instance say you have a back injury early in your career. It would be nice to see you talent level for power drop but know that if you work hard on some other area(reading books, workouts, etc.) you may be able to work yourself back to the top as a contact base hitter with a great eye. Right now I am a 30 year old power hitter who has had the same ratings since I was 22. I don't think you would see this in "real life" |

Nothing new from me... just adding my support for more fluctuations in player potential (or, at least, more information about how such changes occured, and why we don't seem to be seeing any).

It may happen that the bar was a place meant to meet your managers and coaches to get boosts. Boosts in something, I don't know what yet. I haven't had any success in prying their mystical knowledge from them.
But while the bar seems to be an interesting diversion, shouldn't there be a better way to meet with instructional personnel (coaches, trainers, manager, other players, roving instructors) who would be essential to improving as a player? I almost think some odd, low level mini games to test your reaction time, or test your ability to repeat an action (like you have to repeat a pitching motion or batting stance) would add something were it done properly.

That said, I agree with your idea, BMW, about meetings with coaches, etc. It'd be a nice feature, although it does seem that meeting with your batting/pitching coach is probably already covered by your workout routine (ie, scheduled batting/pitching sessions). But the ability to meet your manager/doctor/owner/agent/etc. in a more detailed way would be nice. Maybe you could talk about your team's success, what you could do to improve their opinion of you, how to get promoted, etc. |

In my area, I have the Lakewood Blueclaws. Their manager in 2002 (or 01) was former player Jeff Manto. After they hired another manager, he became a part time instructor for the Pirates. He also can be hired out as an batting instructor.
You can go to http://www.jeffmanto.com and sign up for instructions. When I mean, you, I mean the person, not the game character. So if you can do that in real life, I think that would be an interesting addition to the game. Perhaps they could even replace the books altogether. There is obviously some suspension of disbelief that you could go from throwing AAA to a MLB caliber curveball by reading a book. But maybe just replacing those books with instructors, which feasibly could make you improve by leaps and bounds, would be a good idea.

I have a post about the talent caps (among other things) in the suggestion forum. I agree that there will not really be any long-term value to the game unless the caps become flexible (move up OR down).
Once you max out, there's not even any incentive to get the high-end bats or books, so you don't even feel like playing long enough to get your payday. |

i definatly agree there should be some way to increase the cap. my players max for power is only 10 with high eye/contact/speed and after i read the power lvl 1 book, it just said that i was already at my max and that nothing changed. If nothing else, it should have upped my max and talent to 11. oh well

I had my gap power increase.
As a 21 year old rookie I had already reached my full gap potential of 80. I got a message I believe from the GYM of all places saying that due to my hard work there my gap potential was now +10 at 90. When I looked so was my rating. |

It is indeed the gym that calls you, telling you that all your hard work has paid off. Exactly why or when it happens I'm not sure... I was already at my peak, so maybe you have to max out before it can happen. Also, from the blurb in the "RPG Abilities" section of your house, I presume it requires a good workout routine (i.e. I know I have a lot of strength exercises in my routine -- bench press plus, etc. -- so a power increase seems logical), but beyond that I'm still a mystified by the mechanics of the feature. [HINT]Markus, or anyone with knowledge, care to explain?? [/HINT]

I also had my talent increase from 50 to 60 when I maxed it out, so maybe it does need to be maxed out before you can improve.

Hello all,
I have seen talent changes, increasing the max talent ratings. Turns out I've seen three separate changes to the talent levels of my baseball guy, increases to first, Gap, then Power, then Contact (but not immediately after each other). At the time of the first talent increase, all of the ratings were maxed out; Gap was 70 (70). I had noticed that he was getting tired a lot (he plays SS). Because he had already maxed out in all of his ratings, I figured I needed to reduced the workout regimen to: Sunday 1. Bench Plus 2. Upper Flex Plus 3. Relax 4. Relax Monday 1. Batting Practice 2. Relax 3. Fielding Plus 4. Relax Tuesday 1. Leg Press 2. Lower Flex Plus 3. Relax 4. Relax Wednesday 1. Batting Practice 2. Relax 3. Fast Run 4. Relax Thursday 1. Turn and Run 2. Leg Flex Plus 3. Relax 4. Relax Friday 1. Fast Run 2. Relax 3. Fielding Practice Plus 4. Relax Saturday 1. Wrist Twist 2. Arm Flex 3. Relax 4. Relax The recommended ratio was 1.4 and this setting came to 1.43 or so. He also got above 70 in fitness which was what I was shooting for. A few weeks of simming and I'm surprised by a message that his Gap rating had increased; checked and lo and behold, he's at 70 (80). I kept the physical regimen up until the SS turned about 30-31, and the recommended ratio turned to 1.3. I lowered it to 1.29 by tweaking the exercise and flex routines. In the next 2-3 years, when the guy was maxed out in abilities again, I got a message about Power increased. And in the year after that, when all of his states were maxed out again, I got another message saying that his Contact had increased. Now I can't be absolutely sure, but it appears that if you keep within the recommended ratio of weight training/flexibility AND you have ALL the ratings (Eye, Contact, Gap, Power) max'ed out, then there's a chance that your baseball player will increase in talent ratings. There may be an element of luck there as well, but for the record, I had set the guy with an Luck of 1. I hope this helps. Last edited by Orrie; 12-20-2003 at 08:23 PM. |
