Hall of Fame is a bit of a stretch for Pete (although 500 homers looks doable), and I hope he'd get in as an Oriole.

This rotten franchise.

I commend the Mets for getting casually slaughtered again today to celebrate the news that the brainless roster botching will continue unabated.

The casual slaughterings will continue until morale improves.

(froths from the mouth as Vientos falls on his stupid butt trying to field a stock-standard grounder from Jim Jarvis, committing yet another incredibly pathetic error to put the leadoff man on base)

I never want to hear another ******* word from anybody about "but Pete Alonso is not a good defensive first baseman!" ........

Hey, the Mets scored 12 runs tonight!

Did they win?

Naaaah.

KC 16, NYM 12 - F

Matt Seelinger made his MLB debut at age 31 and gave up 7 runs in 2 innings for the L.

Good on you, kid (kid?), but are we really that deep into the Volkssturm era of the season? In JULY?

Mets might post the worst record in the league this year. I'm rooting for it. If that doesn't get Stearns fired, nothing will.

The Royals have scored 31 runs across their last two games. Given they have another couple o' games in Flushing Toilets, there's probably some stupid record from 1884 they can break.

Now that Mano(s) de Vientos is out with a broken hand, wouldn't it be funny if the Mets went on a winning streak? There's more than one giant anchor around that team's neck, but he's definitely one of them.

From the player debut photo thread:

Matt Seelinger. Two innings on the mound, a lifetime in our hearts.

(And on the pension plan, so good for him.)

He has somewhere between zero percent and not one chance in hell of ever qualifying for a pension.

Isn't it so that you can get partial pensions even for negligible amounts of service time?

(From last season, so the cited players are out of date)

In addition, every 43 days of service adds another 2.5% of the maximum to your payout. So yeah, Seelinger might need a nice injury to get the cash (and a major miracle to get the full payout) but he's in the system and "on the plan" right now.

Also, I believe they're counting days on the 40-man, not necessarily on the active roster. I could have that wrong, though.

"The Mets arrive at the All Star break 17 games under .500, the furthest they have been under .500 at the break since 1995" - Gary Cohen

I don't have the exact quote written down, but Gary and Ron mused about how unbelievable it was that the Mets were hitting as badly as they were, given that almost all (give or take pro IL dweller Luis Robert jr.) batters that were supposed to be here, were so now.

I don't find that so unbelievable, because my scratch list says I have witnessed *70* of the Mets' 97 games this year, and I am scarred for life by the experience. The team *is* simply ****!

The Mets have Soto, who leads the league in OPS and slugging, and is actually (probably) worth his salary, even though he plays defense without a care in the world. You have the rookies Benge and Ewing, who are hitting above league average at least, and if you have enough of those guys on the roster, how bad can it get?

Pretty ******* bad, apparently, because, by OPS+ at the start of play today and according to bb-ref, the Mets have Soto (167), Ewing (119), and Benge (105), and Alvarez (103) barely scratching above the mark, and another 103 from Jared Young, who I couldn't pick out of a lineup with other washed OF/1B the cat has dragged in over the last ten years... and EVERY OTHER POSITION PLAYER (with at least 50 PA), has an OPS+ of 88 or *worse*.

Bichette - 88
Melendez - 86 (and banished)
Robert jr. - 85 (and hurt)
Vientos - 77 (and hurt)
Lindor - 77 (and OH BOY)
Taylor - 77
Baty - 73
Semien - 70 (and hurt)
Torrens - 65
Polanco - 46
Mauricio - 21 (and banished)

How are you gonna score with that **** lot?? They're near the bottom in almost everything!!

Today, the Mets completed getting swept up and discarded in the bin by the Red Cox, who have their own problems, but they know how to handle rubbish on the ground. I've seen Brayan Bello getting battered three or four times this year, but the Mets couldn't do more than a solo home run by Lindor that barely got out. The Mets can't do much of anything, to be honest.

The Mets lacked into seven sterling, scoreless innings by Zack Thornton (who?), and then Ratface Weaver did his thing in a scoreless eighth. All the while, the Mets barely scored two runs.

And then the ninth. Devin Williams can be accused of many things, but not of making you long for Boom Boom Diaz - in a way, Boom Boom is still with us. Williams wasted no time to give up a leadoff single to Cedde- Cedan- .... Cenden- the guy with the stupid first name, Rafaela, before Abreu popped out to Short at second (no wonder the team never throws to the correct base). Enter Romy Gonzalez, SNY musing why Yoshida wasn't batting for him, and Gonzalez hitting a grounder to Lindor for an easy-peasy 6-4-3 double play and a 2-0 win. Except that Lindor ****** it up, bobbled the ball, did a bit of a tumble like old men sometimes do, and the Red Sox now had the tying run on base.

Flavin' Mavin' Williams wasted NO time to make it worse, walking the bags full, and then walked in a run. Jarren Duran then lifted a ball to shallow right, that on a good day someone divines to catch, but Short came up short, and Benge came up sliding, but didn't extend his arm all too much, the ball fell in next to his hip. Keith would have bemoaned fundies. The Sox tied the game, SNY briefly showed them take the lead, incorrectly, and then Yoshida did pinch-hit and lined out to Short at second, who threw to Lindor at short (see?? CONFUSING!!) to double up some red-socked bum to end the bloody inning.

Of course the Mets didn't score in the bottom of the 9th, or in the bottom of the 10th, while the Sox got their fake ******** runner home without issue in the 10th, and so finished off the Mets, 3-2 (10).

And that's why I want Andres Gimenez back!!!

Lindor's contract runs through 20-bleeping-31. **** my life.

Uncle Steve. This can't go on. Stearns needs firing. Uncle Steve, if you don't fire Stearns, you're not my favorite uncle anymore.

I'm sure my father's brother would be thrilled.

I don't know why I'm even typing. This team is so ******* forsaken.

Why? Why can't we have nice things???

I would take McNeil back at 2B and Zack Short at his natural position.

I admit, messing up a game-ending GiDP shouldn't hurt more than one in an earlier inning…but "shouldn't" should shut up, I say.

(Edit: the length of the screed that appeared as I was busy hunting up a single video link either says something impressive about Westheim's fury, or something less-than-impressive about my linking skills. Apologies for my tardiness.)

"Air Quality"?? Are they ****ting me?? I had the game set to record at 7, I tuned in 5 minutes early to settle in, and they moved it up because "maybe the air quality will be bad tonight, boo-hoo-hoo"

They screwed THOUSANDS of working customers who bought their goddamn tickets out of the first 3 innings on a bull**** excuse. What, people are supposed to zip over to the park early on short notice?

They just don't want people to see the Mets. Which certainly makes sense, but **** you anyway.

I headed for bed at the rain delay yesterday, not assuming the game to be resumed. The game *did* get picked up again, but the Mets still didn't add to their pathetic tally of a Tyrone Taylor homer (good for him, maybe he can be traded for ten pounds of apples as the deadlne approaches), and two other single.

Also, there's no point in dragging Senga around any longer. Releasing him would put EVERYBODY out of their misery, including Senga.
