ESPN's next round of layoffs
Reportedly, Ryan Clark is the first domino to fall. He was reportedly told while filming NFL Live. He left mid taping.

Karl Ravech, mostly known for Baseball Tonight, is next big name to be let go.

Any particular reason for this? I only watch ESPN to stream a game. So I don't even know who these people are.

ESPN is losing $ because the cable industry is losing money. And Disney is losing because they subscription service isn't as successful. Then they bought NFL network. So they have been cutting salaries. Particularly on the NFL side this go around because their NFL Network personnel can do double duty in Bristol.

The late-night (2.00 AM ET/11.00 PM PT) "Feel-good" edition with Ravech and Kilby was my jam, back in the day. About 6 weeks before this, I was watching the 4.00 AM rerun, still bummed about the Raiders choking away the playoffs in Buffalo (because Howie Long kept jumping offsides), when the Northridge earthquake hit. As the fore-shocks made my big old CRT TV start jiggling, I got off the floor to stop it from tipping over. I got halfway there and thought "Actually, maybe I oughta get out of here" and headed for the apartment door (to stand in the doorway). I got almost there when the big shock hit, throwing me against the wall and breaking my glasses. Luckily my laundry basket was right by the door, so I didn't need to go out to the parking lot with my junk hanging out. Screw you, Bristol. You really needed to cut Karl (age 61) rather than let him have a few last years? Pinch those pennies, pinheads. |

No big loss to me. ESPN has been basically unwatchable for going on 8 to 10 years. Tune in for a live game or to watch on the dvr. Tune out as soon as the game is over.
Nothing against Karl Ravech but he's been making a seven figure salary for years. Sorry, but if he hasn't saved enough to retire on by now that's on him.
