AI (not) Baserunning

Day 3 of ST.

Every team has unique strategy, all have steals above NEVER. All teams have AI coach set to control baserunning. Not a single SB has been attempted. Nary a one.

Unsure where the bug is, but sure seems like there is one.

Bumping this to see if anyone has insight. If this is confirmed as a ST thing, whatever, I can deal with it. But if others are seeing it during regular season play, it's a pretty high obstacle. Anyone?

We haven't seen it in our testing so far, and I'm not sure I've heard anyone else mention it's so I guess it's most likely to be some sort of league/time of year specific weirdness.

Anything I can provide to validate? We're in the 2nd week of ST (3/11) with no steals attempted via AI.

I would suggest to check your league totals and modifiers, to make sure the SB modifiers haven't somehow been reset to invalid numbers.

Oh, nice idea. But, sadly, no

We're at 100 games with _zero_ SB attempts. I'd be OK running it myself, but as far as I can tell, that requires going into pitch by pitch mode, which I don't want to do.

When I run games through the simulation engine, steals do occur. So they aren't somehow totally forbidden (my guess is this also proves out the SB modifiers question).

Also confirmed that manually instructing to steal works fine.

Another note on this--there have been zero bunt attempts either--so it seems like the AI strategy is just not firing at all.

Are you playing out games individually and using the quick-ab option? if so, that's not going to actually bunt or steal, it will simply swing away. If you want the AI to actually use their strategy, you'd need to set your batting strategy to be controlled by the AI. In that case, they should act.

Or if you can let us know a little more of how you are playing, that might help track down what's going on.

Sorry about the delay. Life and all that. Here is the mgr settings I've used since OOTP24 or 25.

Historically, I would just hit enter to swing away, and the AI would steal bases as it felt appropriate. It worked well--sometimes too often with some, but Raines and Henderson had 100 SB a year, etc.

To the exact question, yes, I just hit enter for each atbat, but nobody is stealing--or bunting or hit and running.

I'm happy to experiment with other settings--it is Spring Training, so the games are more important for getting PA and IP than the results.

Your screenshot shows you are controlling offensive strategy. Steals are offensive strategy. Base running is when you get to decide if a player tries for an extra base. With this setting if you want players to steal you will have to call it.

why don't you throw a flag on stats of AI games vs games played out so we can report what we percieve as bugs and provide you data that you and others can validate.

Sorry, understood. I had to change offense strategy so anyone could steal. Leaving it set to the assistant coach/ai results in zero steals ever. Still.

I'm on the 10th consecutive game with it set that way. Zero steals, zero bunts.
