Trading
Is anyone else seeing a heck of a lot of trade rumours but very few trades in v27?
In one of my leagues imported from v26, I just had close to 100 emails with rumoured trades on Deadline Day but not one actual trade ended up being transacted. Zero, zip, nada. Sure, it's only one year but still, that ain't right. Trade setting is AVERAGE and it's a fairly competitive league where clubs aren't dramatically constrained in a financial sense (three of 24 in the red). I also keep getting multiple offers from the same GMs for the same trade over and over again. It all just feels a bit off, and I am keen to hear if anyone else is experiencing anything similar. |

I'm about three weeks away from the deadline day in my game. I will keep an eye out. For clarity all 100 emails came on deadline day? Or leading up to deadline day? If it was all on deadline day how many trades were made before that day? IOW was there an acceptable amount of trades overall in your league?
100 on deadline day with zero completed doesn't sound right. But if a "realistic" amount of trades happened in the July window it could be something that needs to be tweaked? Maybe spread the rumors out over more days? What I have seen that I like in v27 is rumors don't only list the teams in discussion it also lists the players rumored to be in the deal. I have seen two of these trades completed with the players rumored to be dealt. So it's not just fluff. I haven't seen enough of these to know that a rumored trade never happens. I hope rumored trades falling apart is part of this new "feature". It's a nice addition in it lets you know team A is trying/willing to trade player B. In theory you could try to poach the player with a better offer and maybe start a bidding war. It also makes it easy to see who is a seller and who is a buyer. There have been complaints about the "trade embargo" in OOTP27 for the first couple of months of the season. While zero trades might be too restrictive I have to say I like it, and prefer it to the teams making "too many" deals before giving their season starting roster a chance. April and May in my game had a better feel as teams played with the rosters they built in the offseason, winter meetings, and free agency. Then as the league progresses into June teams are figuring out where they actually stand and are starting to make trades. So far the trades I have seen have made sense in context of how the involved teams are performing. Small sample size of around 5 trades, but if it keeps up as it's going I'm going to be a happy camper.

I've been liking the trading changes so far this year, overall seems like a considerable improvement.
And I've accepted more trades offers from the AI so far in 27 than I have in every previous version of the game combined. There are still plenty of offers that I wouldn't give more than a moments thought to, but plenty of reasonable ones that I take the time to look. |

I've only been through one "deadline season" and it all seemed pretty normal. Got a good number of deals. It did seem like prospect values were a little wonky with really good players going for scrubs and then low level players getting pretty high prospects in return. I chalked it up to scout differences between teams but will be watching closely next time I get that stage.

The emails were sent in the usual script-based way, a trickle, then a deluge, then none on the day before the Deadline, then none in the first few sessions of Deadline Day, then a bunch over the final few. How it always goes. The difference here is the lack of trades. Pre-Deadline Day, three were transacted (all, perhaps tellingly, involving the same club on one side). Then, bubkus. Will have a look again in a season's time and across my other saves that use this process. G |

Yeah, if I can just find the time (playing out my team game-by-game and batter-by-batter, although rarely pitch-by-pitch) to get to July 31, I'll be curious.
Last year using 26 there were a flurry of trades in the days before culminating in more deals up to the deadline. This is with trading set at low. Many of the deals were for minor leaguers and/or very marginal players. It felt like just moving players for the sake of moving them. Balanced, but trading a 12/50 guy for an 18/46 guy isn't likely to move the needle. I'm not sure the AI picks up on the concept of guys about to be free agents after the season - setting up a "rental" for two months. There were few if any of those trades, and some years IRL there are many. One year Atlanta "rented" a whole new OF and won the World Series. I've always thought the trade deadline was way too late in the season. In my seasons I sometimes move it up to the end of June. It would also make sense falling during the All Star break. It's not my favorite feature. Teams with lots of money have far more options (see Atlanta, above). One thing I didn't like much in 26 were the escalating demands from aggressive teams. With the trading intervals, these were relentless, constantly changing players and demands. Typically offering guys I wouldn't take (with their contracts) if they were given to me. Much like shopping a player, one deal out of a hundred maybe makes sense. Of course, one is all it takes.
