Passed Ball issue

I have a catcher that keeps getting replaced by the AI by players who are not catchers. As a result, they are racking up passed ball counts and hurting the team. I have changed catchers and the same problem happens. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've played hundreds of seasons and this is the first time I've seen this issue.

I'll ask the obvious question: How many catchers are on the team?

Also, anything else about the circumstances of the replacement that could help explain? Any changes from default settings?

The most likely culprit would be your starting catcher being tired or hurt. The AI would read that as a mandatory sub. If you don't have a second-string catcher, the AI would still put anybody in there. Do have lineups and depth chart complete? That would guide AI as to preferred subs. Look at the stamina of your starting catcher. that could be the source of the problem. Just spitballing without more background.

Are you on an historical or modern/fictional game? Does the replacement catcher have experience at catcher with no ratings?

I can see where the lineup decisions for a replacement player appear to be based off of how much experience a player has over their fielding ratings.

For instance, 1994 Cardinals. I put catcher Tom Pagnozzi on the IL, and the AI manager wants to insert Todd Zeile in at catcher. My import based fielding ratings over a 3-year period, with a double weight on current year.

Zeile imports with defensive ratings (No scouting) of 0 (zero) for catcher blocking, framing and arm, but has 200 experience at Catcher. That makes me think the AI is weighting experience more than rating ability.

Hopefully that helps, if it's not the same, no intention of hijacking! I feel the historic fielding import could be better. Zeile's experience at 1B, when in '94 he hadn't played many games there, is too much (to me).
