Too many inside the park homers
I'm about 2/3 through a season (2026) and I've had 4 inside the park home runs, including one from a very slow runner. It's fun, but way too many.

What are your fence distances?

I agree. I also think there are too many ground outs to the pitcher and catcher and too many infield hits. Too many throws from the outfield are cut off and relayed to home. Infielders playing deep should not be throwing home to get the runner at third trying to score. For that you should play the infield in or corners in. DP situations with the infield back should go second to first not home to first.

I agree with all of VXM's observations. Infield play is unrealistic with runners on third base. It was no different in 26. Also too many inside the park homeruns. I just managed a team for a 162 game season and had 6 in the 162 games I managed. I don't know how many more in the games that were played by the computer.

The game will start producing more inside-the-park home runs if you play with long fence distances. Not sure if anyone is using custom parks that are seeing this, but just want to make sure it is understood that it could be a factor.

Not playing with custom fences, just regular MLB actual fences.

This is fine but the 4 were just games featuring the Dodgers and whomever they were playing. Its just a bit high |

Totally agree. I'm about 70% through a 1935 historical replay (great season!), and I handle the two New York teams, auto-play the rest. I've seen at least TWENTY inside-the-parkers so far.
I realize that my two home parks are Polo and the original Yankee Stadium, but still. . . |

I just had 2 more inside the park homeruns in the last five games I have played out. The last one by speedster David Ortiz in the Metrodome.

28 spring training games played out. 39 regular season games played out.
Zero inside the park home runs. I lead the league in stolen bases the last two seasons so I don't lack having good baserunners. Imported standard MLB setup using OOTP default MLB stadiums. My game is at least 95% default settings and all default in player creation and development. Thread has been here for 15 days with four posters saying they are having the issue. I'd think more would chime in if it were widespread? Is it just pure chance? Or is there something in your game that makes ISP home runs more likely?

David Ortiz just hit another inside the park homerun at PNC Field for a game I was playing out. His second in 5 games. He had 541 homeruns in his MLB career. None were inside the park. There is definitely a problem.
There is also too much unrealistic infield play. A problem that has existed before this OOTP27. I constantly see the shortstop or second baseman throw home with the infield at normal depth and no force at the plate. I also see the infield being played in by the computer manager with a lead of 2 runs or more. I have watched thousands of major league ball games over the years. I have never seen this. I love this game, but some of these issues are frustrating, causing a loss of ones immersiveness into the game. |

Inside park home runs? Seems to be limited to some users. If I had the issue I'd post in the Technical Support forum and send in a save file so they could look at it. I think that would have a better chance of being seen and investigated than posting another "Too many..." thread in the general discussion forum. Unless I'm missing something the best I can tell is there are no posts in that forum about ISP home runs.

A homerun is a homerun, so I can live with the inside the park homerun bug some of us seem to have. The other homerun bug is there are way to many opposite field homeruns. A cosmetic issue as well. I once tracked 100 homeruns in a season, and 40% were opposite field, 50% pull field and 10% straight away. I did some research and at most 10 to 15% are opposite field in real life.
The infielding quirks do actually affect gameplay, so I wish they would be corrected. |

I am amused at the contrast between the title of this thread "Too many inside the park homers" and another thread "EVERYONE getting thrown out at home?" (caps in original).
![]() Anyway, the game engine doesn't produce 480 foot upper deck home runs or 118 mph line drive HRs that clear the wall before the fielder blinks, and so I doubt it produces hits that rattle around the OF walls eluding fielders until the batter circles the bases. I suggest a post in the tech forum cosmetic issues thread. |

Well, I just had two in the park home runs in one game, one by each team. In my 130 game season that I just finished, I believe I had at least 10. Feels like too many to me.

Haven't seen anything on this topic in a bit, but had to share that I just had Sal Perez with his 5 (on a 1-100 scale) speed get an Inside the Park HR. That was unexpected to say the least!
