Your Fired
In OOTP I have a tendency to click "Cannot fire", which is unrealistic.
What does it take to get fired in OOTP? Does the level you play make a difference?

I always use the "Cannot Fire" option from the first time I started a game. My reasoning is simple, this is a game, not real life. I want to play, no matter if I'm winning or losing. In addition, there is no "way" to talk with an owner and explain what I'm doing. Rebuilds take time, firing a gm/manager mid-rebuild is a dumb move, because now the rebuild starts again under someone else's plan.
Getting fired after investing 2-3 game years working to better a team would not be fun. I'm 30 years into my first game from OOTP16, playing the 2046 season. After that time investment, getting fired would probably result in an uninstall and no longing playing going forward. Hope that helps. |

I'll usually turn on the cannot be fired checkbox for the first 4-5 years, because by then I should be making progress that satisfies even the game AI.

I managed to get myself fired once this year already, first time it's happened to me in a very, very long time. I deserved it. Probably should have been canned many more times over the years, but the human player tends to get a pretty long rope.

But I don't really think of myself as an actual general manager. More like, I pick a team to follow, and then I get to make all the decisions for that team, but I'm going to do so as long as I damn well please. It's a game and I want to play. |

I'm guessing here since I can't recall where I read this, but the option was added in the past because players were getting fired and were not happy about it after investing time into the team. Since this is not real life, players want to follow their team forever. |

But even if you get fired, you can rehire yourself anyway.

Thus the option to prevent the player from dealing with that issue.
By the time you take over again, the AI has offered contracts set Arbitration numbers and possibly released players. Which you now need to reset. To avoid the rework, just check cannot be fired. Simple. |
