Summer League Schedule

If I were to create a league and have its schedule run in the summer, say from May to September, would the teams in this league have its players' contracts expire midseason on July 1st or would they run through the end of their season in September?

This would not work (and should not be possible).

The season switch is always on June 30th -> July 1st of a year.
