AI releasing players unrealistic
It’s much worse this year. The AI is releasing 55+ overall players, leaving outrageously high value potential or current value players available in the Rule 5 draft. IMO it was a slight problem in OOTP26 but in 27 it almost breaks the game. I’ve seen the Brewers release Arb Misioroski, for example, and seen teams release 55 overall relievers and then re-sign them a week later.

I believe the developers are looking at this issue. Hopefully a fix makes the next patch.

Every year this has been a problem with OOTP. It never seems to be solved. .

Yeah, the AIs roster management is atrocious this year. I'd honestly say that the issue borders on game breaking.

Yeah, it is completely out of control right now. Appreciate the work they did on how AI offers trades and how they evaluate players around the trading deadline, but at what cost? Because right now the game is completely unrealistic and it is almost not fun playing because it is so crazy right now. Hope they give an update here soon!!
Next year they should have a longer period of Beta testing! |

That is what I said a few days after release in a thread titled "Warning ..." where I said the game is not playable. I was flamed by players this was the greatest version ever.
Now more and more players are agreeing with me the game right now is broken. |

If I recall correctly, last version they made some changes to try to prevent good prospects from being blocked, and just generally trying to avoid better players staying in the minors when they should be on the MLB roster. Unfortunately I think it swung too far in the other direction where the CPU is now overly trigger happy to release players for marginal gains. Hopefully there is a happy medium to be found between the two approaches, because I feel like with the new trade AI there’s a real opportunity for stronger AI roster building but the constant waiving and releasing is killing that right now.

There is clearly a fundamental issue at play, one that has been around forever and that no stopgap measures will solve.
For mine, one of the most telling things is how the waiver wire nonsense continues past the end of the regular seasons at clubs not involved in the playoffs. Why would any player need to be waived more than once if the parent club is no longer active? It even continues past the end of the top-level playoffs as the last few minor leagues play out their season, again with no logical reason for it. The logic in place needs to be completely overhauled or the problem is not only not going to be fixed, it will continue to worsen. It's a shame because, from what I have seen so far, 27 is otherwise fantastic. Last edited by luckymann; 03-25-2026 at 08:00 PM. |

But I agree, for the most part, this version of OOTP is excellent and the trade logic is much improved. Hopefully the waiver wire will be fixed soon. |

Like for example, there is no way the Rangers would put Lucas Giolito on waivers after signing him during the offseason for two-years, $9.1 million dollars. Plus he is pitching good this year with a WHIP of 1.20 and yet they placed him on waivers. This is just one example of about two dozen players on the waiver wire in my season.

People who didn't post in the previous thread are discovering the problem and posting about it. Those who said in the previous thread that you were wrong will never admit they were wrong.

Glad to see others having the same issues. Is there any word that they're working on this?

Pretty unfortunate, because everything else about this release is awesome! All the other work the devs have done for this release is great. Once this gets cleaned up, OOTP27 will be the best release yet. |

We're aiming to have many of these issues corrected or improved in the next patch.

I for one am enjoying picking up players like Jordan Lawlar and Evan Carter off waivers. Building one hell of dynasty. Now if only I could get any of them to develop past 50/80...problem for another day I guess.
