The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that a hamstring strain will end the season of second baseman Kayson Cunningham.
Cunningham, 28, suffered the injury during a 2-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sept. 18.
He is expected to miss up to two weeks, and with just 13 games left in the season, it means Cunningham likely will not take the field again until 2035.
Cunningham played in 122 games/120 starts this season for St. Louis, hitting .272 with five home runs, 53 RBIs and 66 runs scored.
He also stole 39 bases.

The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that a strained groin injury will force utility infielder Carlos Colmenarez to miss the remainder of the season.
Colmenarez, 30, is expected to be out for at least three weeks.
In his first season in St. Louis, Colmenarez has hit .216 with six home runs and 16 RBIs in 73 games/55 starts.

The St. Louis Cardinals have learned shortstop Gustavo Melendez will miss the remainder of the regular season after suffering an elbow injury in an 8-5 win over the Houston Astros on Sept. 28.
The injury is expected to keep the 26-year-old out for up to five weeks.
It's been a relatively injury-free season for the oft-hurt Melendez, who had played in 131/129 starts of 152 games up to this point.
Because of that, he made his first All-Star team, starting for the National League.
Melendez will finish the season with a .248 batting average, 12 home runs, 64 RBIs, 73 runs scored and 30 stolen bases.

With a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, the Texas Rangers became the first team to assure themselves a place in the Major League Baseball postseason.
The owners of the best record in baseball at 88-64, the Rangers lead the Houston Astros by 7.5 games in the American League West Division with 10 games remaining.
That record also puts them 3.5 games in front of the American League Central Division-leading Kansas City Royals for the best record in the AL.
The leaders of the National League West, the Colorado Rockies, boast the best record in the NL at 85-68.
Texas is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2032.
