Complete sim scenario, playoff game. Computer managers are charge. Charlotte is my team. Note the use, and subsequent abuse of the Intentional Base on Balls. So does anyone else think the field managers overuse the intentional walk?
Score: Charlotte 7, Boston 3 Batting: Boston, bottom of 7th. Pitching: Brent Torre SS Erik Stackpole: Base on balls. PH Bill Parsons: SINGLES to left Stackpole to second. 3B William Braatz: Hit by pitch. Stackpole to third. Parsons to second. RF Moses Leon: SINGLES to right Stackpole scores. Parsons to third. Braatz to second. C Jose Francois: SINGLES to center Parsons scores. Braatz to third. Leon to second. Braatz tries to score... Damm throws home... Braatz scores! Leon to third. Francois to second. score is 7-6, with 2 on and nobody out by the way, why is my starter still in this game? 1B Weston Milone: Intentional walk. LF Ernest Reith: New pitcher: Reinaldo Vargas. Grounded into double play, 1-2-3. check it out, the IBB pays off with a home to 1st DP! Francois to third. Milone to second. 2B Gene Kelly: Intentional walk. This is the one I have a problem with - this guy is hitting .242, lowest on the team, and the next guy has a .321 avg. There's two outs, so what's the reason for this?? CF Henry Birdsall: Wild pitch. Francois scores. Milone to third. Kelly to second. Base on balls. PH Miguel Borrego: SINGLES to right Milone scores. Kelly to third. Birdsall to second. Kelly tries to score... He scores without a throw. Sure enough, the IBB scores! PH Bill Parsons: Grounds into fielders choice to the shortstop, Borrego out at 2nd base. Inning over... 6 runs, 4 hits, no errors. Score: Boston 9, Charlotte 7 Boston eventually won 9-8 [ 05-03-2002, 12:16 AM: Message edited by: BleacherBum ]

There have been a few threads on this tumultuous topic. Here's one:
http://www.400softwarestudios.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000636 I'm with the "AI use of IBB needs a major overhaul" faction. You're welcome to join, brother. ![]() [ 05-03-2002, 04:40 AM: Message edited by: mtw ]

And AI IBB does need to be looked at, and given the level of support Markus gives us, I'm sure it is. Whether it's a do-able enough fix to make it into the next patch is another question...

In my particular case, those manager settings and league parameters are all as they were "out of the box" - I have not fiddled with any of them.
